Day 21 & 22, New York to England

Woke up early, and packed our bags. Checked out and put our bags into day storage as our flight wasnt till the evening. Caught the subway down to Battery Park, and caught the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty, the security is worse than an airport has, they yell at you to take things off and rush you and pat you down, Leight had a piece of paper in his back pocket and the security guard was yelling at him to take it out, as if he was gonna paper cut someone to death ...

Americans get in free

... fellow flatmates and I decided to take advantage of free Madame Tussuad's admission and went before class at 10:40. With our 35 pound entry fee waived, we were free to walk amongst Brad Pitt, Harry Potter, The Queen, The Beatles and many others. What was most special about today though was the museum was unveiling the brand new President Obama wax statue, we were amongst one of the first to see it. After that, we quickly hopped on the tube and made ...

Getting there

... side awaiting my coach. As my train sped onward, it took everything to keep the tears from coming down as I sadly thought of everything we had, and everything we seemed to have lost. I had also written down my exact thoughts and feelings about our reunion during a quiet period spent in his dormitory, which I am now distressed not to find anywhere. Friends #3 and #4 met up with me at the train station in Exeter, and together we walked up into town and had a bite to eat and a ...

In bad company

Downtown Wokingham is not exactly a hive of activity, particularly after 6:30pm, but it has it's fair share of local pubs. I've been gravitating towards The Redan, on the high street, opposite the local Woolworths store, mainly because it serves a Jacobs Creek c******nay and it has a beer garden. But today at lunchtime I fell into bad company. A scantily clad 30-something, who was part of a ...

Slobbing your gob on the famous Blarney Stone!

... afternoon congestion so I left our bus and group and transferred to the tram as we were stopped in traffic adjacent to the tram stop. The tram took me straight into the city's bus station where I joined the airport express bus which was exceptionally fast as it reached the airport via one of the city's roadway tunnels. I then boarded my flight to London where I stayed overnight before joining a 20 day tour through a number of countries on the European continent.

London: A great weekend

A Foggy Day in Londontown

Meet the local guide, Reg, at 9:00. It's a foggy morning and a bit drizzly. I get the front seat on the bus so I can look out, but it doesn't seem to matter as the window has a big bar through it and above the bar it gets all rained on and foggy. I love seeing so many familiar places, though. It's a like a homecoming in a way. Our morning tour leaves us at Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guard. I have a ...

Long haul hell with happy ending

... which in turn led to my first and definitely not last public humiliation of James. (as his older sister it is my duty!). We landed safely in London and spent about as long in the customs queue as we did on the plane. They let us in eventually and despite the guys with big machine guns wandering around we made it out safely. Auntie Janet and Uncle Claude were there to meet us and it was so wonderful to see them and their car! :-) Working on no sleep tends to ...

... my time devoted to getting organised for my little trip to the Americas. I currently plan to leave at the begining of May - but things may change depending on whether I can get the flat rented etc blah blah... Once I finally depart these damp and dreary shores for the States, I will head into a world of hurt with my two trusty sidekicks Lee & ...
