Tioman Island: After enduring a full days travelling, from Redang Island back to the Mainland, lunch in Kuala Terengannau, then a 5 hour bus & taxi journey to Kuantan, to the pluch Swiss Garden Resort Hotel for a treat. Unfortunately we had a bit of a miserable stay, just not used to the impersonal concrete 5 star jungle, & we would rather have stayed elsewhere. Anyway, after 2 nights in Kuantan, we endured a 3 hour taxi ride to Tanjung Gemok & boarded the Ferry to Pulau Tioman. A...

10th October 2009

Lynne......

Wow finally some relaxation. We got the early ferry over to the island and found a great bungalow with a small balcony and own bathroom.
We had a mass of washing to do, so spent a few hours hand washing all our grubby city clothes and hanging them up outside in the sun. We then went for a walk to get our barrings and had some lunch, as we arrived back at our room there was a russelling in the bushes to the ...
Pulau Tioman, Pahang, Malaysia carsonsontour2... a pretty cool guy; really resourceful... He'd be able to survive in the jungle with nothing. After we split up all of our food between us he asked us if we were bringing tents or hammocks. This came as a surprise to us because we had been assured by Katie (our boss) that those would be provided for us. Luckily he had two extra hammocks and a tarp (which I used to sleep on the ground...). It was a ...
Juara, Pahang, Malaysia nkan7... the highlight, a two-foot long sea turtle who swam along underneath us for a few minutes.

Tired out and stung by little jellyfish, we retired back to the beach for lunch. Are we relaxed yet?

We came to Tioman Island from the nation's capital, Kuala Lumpur (which we are still trying to figure out how to pronounce correctly—until then, we'll use the initials, K.L.)

K.L. was a ...
Salang, Pahang, Malaysia bethverdeJust got back from a dive 2 hours ago which was definately one of the coolest. Right when we got into the water I saw a puffer swimming around in circles. After everyone got in I swam a bit further off and saw my first black tip shark. They aren't huge but they do get to almost 2 meters. I swam a ways away but with the shark for a minute before it swam off. Right after that I ...
Tekek, Pahang, Malaysia nkan7Today for dinner we went to a town called ABC (stands for something i can't remember) and ate at a beach restaurant. We all had pizza -- some of the best I've ever had actually :P
Most of us got the El Diablo which had some rather hot peppers on it. Great view of the ocean (same as everywhere else on this island really). The cab ride to the place was interesting -- We were waiting outside after calling them and this van pulls up ...
Tekek, Pahang, Malaysia nkan7... island. A mile long stretch of sand the colour of maple wood sits like a shelf supported by jetties North and South. At either end the dark green jungle covered mountains rise out of the sea like book ends supporting the tall spiney coconut palms nestled in between. The few guesthouses and restaurants in the village remain hidden from sight, their timber shells dissappearing as they blend into the trees. The sea, flat like a giant ...
Pulau Tioman, Pahang, Malaysia lisaknott... in the group. Amidst much shrieking and squealing, none of which was chiroptera produced, we turned back. As it transired, an inspired decision, as the heavens opened, and not for the first time, another deluge of biblical proportions hit.

Another tasty evening meal, grilled prawns, (S), and, once again the watercress curry, (D), along with Tsingtao, concluded our final night on Tioman.
Pulau Tioman, Pahang, Malaysia ironinkent... could really only see a little way infront which was pretty creepy.
We saw a decorator crab heaps of stingrays, bryden found a shark
(either a bamboo shark or a cat shark we are not sure), and there
were some really big fish we think were trevally.
