Leaving Mauritius

I hear my phone ring. It is 3.30am. I fear the worst. I answer it but I can't hear the person at the other end and I suspect that they can't hear me. The call cuts off. There is no caller ID, so I have no idea who it was. Now I am really worried. A few minutes later a voice message comes through. It was someone from my work wanting to chat. I am relieved. I think that I should wait until it is 3.30am in Melbourne and then ring them back. I am wide awake. So is Issy. Neither of us ...

This tactic does not seem to be very successful in getting the people in the water any closer to the dolphins, because the dolphins can swim much faster than the people can. It will be interesting to see what they do with their umbrellas when they have to scramble up rocks using their hands. We get to the end of the jeep track and start the scrambling part of the climb. It is quite steep and the ropes certainly come in handy to help us pull ourselves up. Parts of the track are a bit slippery from yesterday's rain. There ...

She sits on our balcony keeping watch for the drinks man trying to deliver drinks to us on the beach in the rain. She sees him. She asks me what she needs to yell at him in French to get his attention. I don't know why she thinks she needs to yell in French. All the staff here speak English. "Hey you" will probably do it. The man wanders up and down along the ...

... and was good that we were there.

After the business side of it, we were picked up by a car and were taken to a safari lodge at the base of Kilimanjaro for a few days of relaxation and game viewing. The lodge was based in large tents but with a solid roof over it and it was just outside the national park which is basically a swamp formed by the run-off from Kili. It is not a smelly swamp though, and attracts lots of animals which makes it perfect to view ...
