Mauritius, Mauritius chengengxinMauritius is the first trip Chandra and I took after we got married.. finally!! After a stressful 2 year, long distance relationship we were looking for some peace and quiet and beauty by the ocean which we absolutely got. Mauritius much as it is an isolated piece of land has so much life and color it is unbelieveable. It was surprising to see the explosion of culture. It is full of surprises We rented a small jeep during our stay and explored the offbeat beaches and the cities. Spent a lot o...

Flic en Flac, Black River, Mauritius gerard1990Its dawned on me today that we have actually been here for 5 weeks and am starting my 6th weke in the hosp! Also the blog has had over 1000 visits! I am in the hospital this morning and have just finsihed my ward round. This mornings round was again very different. This time the consultant was very stern and was a no nonsense man, a bit like the old style consultants back in the UK. He was very particular about ...
Pamplemousses, Mauritius b.herring... patients which was cool. After that it was ward round which was very long winded today but we did get to see some sight like a guy in an RTA with a mashed up face (technical terminology), a lady with advanced breast cancer which we hadnt examined before. A couple of sights that were a little worrying were a lady who obviously had heart failure, a pleural effusion, was coughing up lots of frothy sputum and struggling to breath ...
Pamplemousses, Mauritius b.herring... she could understand the locals and that they understood her, but it was obvious to me no one was understanding each other. Although physical safety was on my mind, I felt more nervous about getting to where we needed to be and when. I was afraid we would get lost or end up in a situation we couldn't get out of or shouldn't be in. I wanted to find an artist but did not succeed. I felt so unaccomplished and defeated by the whole day and experience. The ...
Port Louis, Mauritius jteem... get out but there was no help to be seen. We circled the returns centre, and Rach asked a bloke strolling by where else we could drop the car off. He said, sit by the gates and hoot, the security man often falls to sleep in the cars. Slightly relieved we did, but the only people that turned up were behind us in a queue. They seemed to find our actions strange and asked why we were hooting at the closed gates and not going in. Sharp. Anyhow, eventually the man woke, the car was ...
Le Morne, Mauritius chperry'm sitting on my bed amazed because I have the next four hours where I have NOTHING to do...an odd occurrence. We recently left, Mauritius home of the bird formerly known as the Dodo. I have decided that the Dodo got the short end of the stick, evolutionarily speaking. It was stupid and slow, not a good combo. It is EVERYWHERE on the island: Dodo pens, Dodo towels, Dodo underwear. It would be like us putting a ... I can't find something to compare the Dodo to, because ...
Port Louis, Mauritius wjphilip... to be able to see most of the Mauritian species up close including a few species of sharks and some very friendly sea turtles. See photos. In general, everyone is doing well and we are all deep into vacation mode. Everyone has been careful not to get sun burned. I would say that Melissa is the brownest; Shaylagh is now a tropical blond, and Anna also has a pretty good tan. Amélie is a beautiful little brown baby and the sun has given her hair some brown ...
North coast, Mauritius gmonvoisin... plummeted into swimming holes. Kim and I decided to climb down the rocks of "Cascade Vacoas" a waterfall found in the depths of the Mauritian jungle. We spent the better part of our day here swimming and exploring. We were so moved by the waterfall, that we found a rock in the center and decided to meditate. We sat still for a while just listening to the energizing sound of the crashing water and of the birds chirping within the dark jungle. No one was around ...
