As our plan to ascend to the top of Jungfrau was negated by the weather, we elected to explore some of the other (of the many) options in the area. We first hiked up the valley to view the Trummel-Bach waterfalls ("Trummel-Bach-Falle"). These falls are amazing - they are ten glacier-waterfalls inside a mountain (but still accessible). These falls drain the glaciers of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau mountains and carry up to 20,000 liters of water per second. Pretty overwhelming. ...
By the time we were leaving, it was raining harder. Instead of walking back, we took the funicular. It is the oldest funicular in Europe. It was built in 1879. We caught the boat back to Interlaken. Upon arrival to the Berner Oberland region in Switzerland, we began our vacation with a cruise along Lake Brienz. Interlaken means land between the lakes. Interlaken is between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, two very beautiful lakes with green coloring. This day turned out to be our best weather day in Switzerland and we enjoyed the views as we traveled down the lake.
