... the ovens to look for gold teeth or clean up. They usually tried to use children around the age of ten, too young to understand what was happening, and big enough to do the work. That broke my heart.

That was the end of our visit, and certainly a lot to take in. Fortunately we had a easy evening ahead of us. We came back to the hotel and had time to just rest and reflect on the day.

The next day, Saturday, was going to be busy because this was a long weekend, so we set off early to see one of the most popular tourist sites here, Bastei Bridge, built in 1851. ... much of BC forests. Much of the last two days have been spent on gravel logging roads cutting through evergreen forest. When not in the forest we were riding across agriculture land. Right now is harvest time with massive tractors towing trailors full of turnips and corn. Often the paths have been muddied and rutted from all this traffic. Not nearly as many cyclists on this route. I suspect the hilly terrain and unpaved surfaces keep people away.
