... Gardena - sadly it was 9 km ! It was stunning scenery which I tried to appreciate but in truth I was stuffed. So it was a grind up the climb, but is made it. Then the massive storm hit - it thundered down in sheets of wind-driven rain which quickly turned the road into a river. We waited it out for a while and thought it had cleared so set off on our 11 km descent. Then the heavens opened again!! I have never been so cold and wet and unable to see on ...

... a smooth check-in.

It has to be said that 1/2 day in Dresden is not enough. With travel to and from, it is pretty much essential that you have at least a 2 night stay. We didn't so we short-changed ourselves and did not do justice to Dresden.

... beautifully decorated, amenities galore and a very comfortable bed. The service and friendly staff were outstanding and the breakfast buffet, included in the room price, was delicious. It was a fitting end to an incredible day. After breakfast, we walked around the center city, the site of total destruction after American and British massive bombing toward the end if WWII, in Feb 1945. In spite of Soviet occupation from 1945 to German unification ...

The location is misleading. We went WAY more places than Altenberg, BUT! that was the destination and farthest point (I think), sooooo... yes, that is where we are saying this entry is from.
The morning started with a very early finishing of Bill and Ted's Extreme Adventure. I think I went back to sleep, and then I went through periods of waking up right before my alarm (I finished the movie at 4 something, and then I have alarms at 6, 6:30, 7 (hmm, do I ...
