Sound of Music: When I last left you, I was heading out to the Sound of Music bus excursion. Smaltzy, but I loved it. 50 years ago, in 1965, the movie was made here in Salzburg (and indoor scenes inside in a Hollywood studio). We went to all the sites of major parts of the film, saw many familiar buildings and recognizable sites, and learned about fact and fiction regarding the Von Trapps. Our guide was an Austrian from Salzburg, who had lived in Boston for 10 years some years ...

One of our stops was Hellbrun Palace, and had a wee look at the grounds and the gazebo from the Sound of Music. ... concerns and so as we disembarked from the ship, we
collected our bags and made our way to Salzburg, Austria.

    Every journey starts with a
first step. And that was fine until we reached a driverless train pulled on a
cable that is imaginatively called, wait for it…. a people mover. The cruise
officer was very helpful in telling us how to get to the people mover and as we
had been told that the bus station where we were to meet our 9:30 coach ...

... and a bird clucks - riveting stuff hah), then moved on to learn about some Czech history. Apparently they have a thing for defenestratiions (aka- throwing people out windows). There have been more than a couple in the past. The tour guide said that's why all the bars are in basements. Even with his emotionless Austrian expressions, I think he might have actually been serious on this one. That night we decided to do a pub crawl which started with all you can drink and ended at ...
