    ... found a different path near the gorge, climbing bridge rails etc etc to get some decent photos.

    Still alive, we traveled back to Salzburg slowly, walked the river by night and checked out the cathedral all while consuming pumpkin soup, chocolate, apple strudel and coffee.

The Ice Cave was amazing, with temperatures dropping to -2 degrees C (below 30 F) It was something we'd never seen before.  Northern Europe has certainly more of a modern feel compared to Portugal, Spain, and Italy. Almost everyone speaks English as a second language, bathrooms are finally properly equipped, and public transportation is more modern and efficient.     ... forecast had changed and looked gloomy for the next few days. The lack of an awning was a “game changer”. Dawn had planned to camp but with no “roof” over our kitchen area plus the inclement weather this wasn’t viable. Adjacent to the camp was a charming pension.

    ... the 1960's when the Catholic Church approved the practice of cremation. So I assume you rest for 12 peaceful years in the cemetery and then are cremated to make room for the recently deceased. We saw a fresh grave there where a lady had just been buried a week or so earlier.
    Hallstatt was very memorable, and we enjoyed our train ride back to Vienna on Sunday afternoon. Austria is truly a beautiful country.

    Time for some exercise, says Sandra. OK, options are bike or Shanks' pony. We opt for the latter as bikes may prove an encumbrance. Chores done, we set off up the lakeside for 4-5 kilometres in the sunshine. Stocks are running low, so water is rationed. St Gilgen has ice cream shops for Keith, and tourist tat for everyone else, but it also has a wedding in progress so lots of folk are milling around in their Saturday best, some of which ...
