... other varieties seem to be popping up all over Salzburg - the kids love em!) to see the gazebo. I got a better picture of it this time. All in all, we covered a lot of ground, as the church they were married in was quite a way out of town. Made for a good lunch stop and enjoying the incredible countryside. It really is spectacular. At the end of the tour, we went into Mirabell Palace Gardens (final scene for Do, Re, Mi). The gardens are spectacular. Archbishops were the ...

... they consider this area to be German as far as booking goes. Got myself oriented to the city and the countryside. One of our stops was Hellbrun Palace, and had a wee look at the grounds and the gazebo from the Sound of Music. Not much to see here except a pretty cool panorama of Salzburg from the 1800s. We wandered the Getreidegasse again and then we walked down river to Augustiner's, a beer hall run by monks. It's like a really big McMenamins Edgefield or Roadhouse, but instead of the waiters bringing you food, you order food in a food court similar to a shopping mall. ...

Salzburg is famous to tourists because The Sound of Music was filmed here. Bus tours showing famous settings from The Sound of Music are more popular than all other available tours combined! And for the most part, the locals have no idea what all the fuss is about and have never seen nor heard of The Sound of Music, apart from it being plastered all over tour buses across the city. After some complications with our train, we arrived in Salzburg on June 29 to be greeted by ...
