We were up an hour earlier than usual, as Charlie felt a little uncomfortable with the whole freedom camping concept! Our trek around Glasgow was not as difficult as we thought it might be, so we were across the Erskine Bridge and up at the bonnie banks and bonnie braes of Loch Lomond in time for morning tea. This loch is the largest body of fresh water in mainland Britain, and very pretty it is too. The sun broke through for just ...

We popped into the Dumfries township this morning but got beaten back by a shower of rain, so after passing through Castle Douglas (a lovely little town with a refreshingly encouraging attitude to parking), we found the Threave Estate. It was like when the garden hose gets kinked.

... on Loch Lomond that I visited last time I was across the pond some 20 years ago. Food and pints were just as I remembered. Continuing south we traversed over to Stirling to visit the William Wallace National Monument...including the 246 step ascent to the peak of the tower. Impressive views, memorabilia, and of course the ...
