A bit dated, however, helpful, friendly staff, great location right at station, good wifi, hot water, Japanese style bathroom available. Good value .

There are eight altogether and we set off for Kannada district about a 20 min bus ride away.

This area is known for its onsen/hotspring and there are many public onsens throughout the town. At the end of our street is a public foot bath with three separate little pools, all with different temperatures. The first pool is 45-46 ...

... t-shirts ;)) After the sand bath, we headed for the hells of Kanawara. Kanawara is an area of Beppu, on the mountain, where steam comes out of the streets, where people cook with the steam, where pools get beautiful colors from the minerals in the steam of the volcano. The only drawback of all this steam is that it constantly smells like rotten eggs... Enjoy the pictures ;) From the pools, we went a little bit higher on the ...

And we keep on taking pictures of the food ;) we had some sashimi of fugu fish tonight and luckily for us, this one was not poisonous. For now, our beds have been made and it is time to plan for tomorrow. Good night ...

... up close because the tide was low. We then decided to hike up to the top of the island. Wow! This was a great hike, the prettiest hike I've ever done. Along the way we visited other shrines and we were able to witness a private ceremony. Cool! We continued to hike up to 2000 feet on stairs alone!!!! It was tough, but we did it. And it was worth it! The views from the observatory were incredible. We decided to take the cable car down and that was also cool! Our next stop ...
