Hello Again All,
Yes, I know! I'm a slacker when it comes to sending out blogs. C'mon, I am in another Country. What do you expect.
Anyways, since the last blog I have had the opportunity to live like a monk for a weekend, attend Korea's "Largest Foreigner Festival" (Boryeong Mud festival) and of course more hiking.
Life has a Monk: 6 other friends and I decided to travel to Busan to attend a Temple Stay. Basically we arrived at Beomeosa Temple, which is one of the mos...
... I CAN...I just have to learn how to order over the phone... Well, I actually kind of know how to, but I'm scared :) The hardest part--emotions aside--has been knowing that I have to do everything on my own again with out a built-in translator....or someone to depend on. So begins my new life in Korea....
I've made a lot of new friends and reconnected with old ones... You kind of have to after a break-up ...
... 8, which isn't bad at all! It was a great day out, and fantastic to see the trees changing colour (still trying to get pictures sorted out but you will see eventually!). Perhaps more importantly it was nice to hang out with a group of Westerners after spending all week with our Korean cousins. Ease of conversation is priceless!
I've also made some good English friends in Ulsan which is very important. Great to keep those ...
... I went to the top for clear views over the city, before I watched a traditional Korean dance whilst basking in the sun. Travelling to new places refreshes my mind, so I was feeling good as I took the subway to Haeundae, home to Korea's most (in)famous beach. This stretch of sand is packed with tens of thousands of sun-worshippers in summer, but thankfully it was a much more pleasant affair on my visit, late on Saturday evening.
The next day ...
... containing the caged emaciated specimens ready for consumption that is an experience i can do with out. There are certainly thing that even I find slightly barbaric. There are things about this country which I will never understand nor do I care to try. I rather like the mystery Still I do rather like being the red M&M in a sea of blue ones. Last weekend I went with my doctor student to the West sea ...
Busan, Korea Rep. j0rgeherter... do well, with Gibbo's team getting to the semis for bronze. After prize giving, we head back to the dojo for snacks and beer. Thoroughly debriefed and celebrating, we all head out to a local izakaya and feast on a huge array of dishes joined by lots of sake, shochu and beer. Getting late and with speeches complete, most people head off home. A small group of locals potters off to a local sushi place. From behind the counter, a bottle of shochu with a ...
Busan, Korea Rep. bastin79... a local restaurant with Korean food. We were supposed to go to Pacific Land for some dolphin shows but were told that its late for entrance and we were advised to take on a cruise along the Jeju beach front costing another 15000 won. The cruise was magnificent with the breath-taking views of the ocean and the cliffs, islands, and cave formations. The only drawback was that the explanation was in Korean for the whole trip. Perhaps it should ...
Ulsan, Ulsan, Korea Rep. ckh... impressed with the designs and structure of the temple although I still wouldn't be able to tell you the visible difference between a Korean, Chinese, or Japanese temple. I guess it's almost as bad as saying, "All Asians look alike". "Oh no he didn't! I can't believe he just said that!" lol After the temple we went to the more modern part of town and checked out the trendy university areas where we came across hundreds of designer clothes and a ...
