Bent Oaks Hendersonville

Imagine a big billboard with a really sad looking turkey and the line underneath say's "Think you're having a bad day? It's nearly Thanksgiving", ha, ha, ha. We totally loved it.

... passed through Chapel Hill to catch up with Rob and Claire who we met way back at Crater Lake in Oregon. We hung out for a couple of hours at the local Co-op café/grocery store on a perfect day under a shady tree, enjoying good company, good food, and good weather. Now we just have to finish the gigantic drive and hope the Shuttle launches.

... we head back north. It was great having many of the foods of my youth (plus some new ones); all kinds of greens (kale, collard greens), sausage gravy and biscuits, fried pickles. Plus we ate deserts. I’ll be dieting and exercising more than usual when we get back.

On the lighter side: On our walk, I spotted a sign above one of the trailers. “Home of a fisherman and his greatest catch.”

When we were buying gas, the backyard of the gas station faced back yard of a fixer-upper house. I commented to Dave that even though the immediate view was a gas station and a Harley Davidson dealership, the house did have a view of the mountains from two sides; the front and back. ... br>The kids started parading by our campsite. Most of them initially missed us because of the razzle-dazzle of the campsites around us. All we had was a measly string of spider lights. We practically had to coax kids to stop by and take our candy.

The kids were adorable. Our favorites: a gregarious Raggedy Ann and her toddler triceratops brother, a tiny Count Dracula with fake fangs, and a young green dragon on a matching green ...

... 280 and 276 was as colorful as the parkway, proving that what at first looks bad can possibly be better. Not only was the scenery on the detour a great fall show, we also saw several waterfalls we wouldn’t have seen on the original route. The Looking Glass Waterfall, pictured, was fairly large. It’s 11:45 EDT and it’s still pouring. There may be flash floods – don’t know if the RV will be floating when we awaken tomorrow.

... I met two really nice local girls who showed me around town and bought me drinks. They took me to the town Open Mic night and we listened to some pretty good music and shook hand and bought drinks for some of the acts we liked best. I split ways with the girls and ended the night at the local Irish Pub (unauthentic, Asian female bartender) and met some other young who just moved back from Denver after some crazy eviction ...

We spent 3 days in the Mountains near Asheville, N.C. The R.V. resort was a small one, about 25 sites but situated high in the mountains with a great view.
A visit to the Biltmore Estate and Chimney Rock is a must when in this area. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also nearby.

... last was our last night of freedom until the first session ends so we all went into ashville.Its a really cute town and quite hippy.
