Marco Polo airport is undergoing major construction work. At present it is little more than an area for planes to land and park up. A bus takes you to and from the aircraft and the terminal is basic. Booths selling tickets for transport to Venice and little else. No passport control, I guess they rely on airlines having vetted their passengers prior to travel. Some of the large famous buildings are marble, which has created some issues for them because the salt in the water causes destruction of the marble, but non the less they add something even more special to the city, and are enjoyable to touch.
