... shoe-d. During school holidays they take children for dray rides and also enter competitions for dray and turnout. Duke (the 'naughty' one) currently has 3 younger horses for company, but is soon also to be retired to field - presumably to join Baron and Mac. Heather was most upset on finding this out and they're going to the park this week to ask where they're retired to - with a view to visiting."
Today we drove from Dingwall (north of Inverness) to the Isle of Skye with a few stops at Loch Ness. The trip was beautiful but pretty slow in some places especially when we were behind a large hay truck on single lane road.
... the current Duke maintains a very low profile....and there have even been recent attempts to topple and deface the nearby imposing memorial to an earlier D of S.
Now I understand why we rarely visited this castle when we lived here....but we put our social conscience briefly to one side and contributed ...
... a really good talk about how he trains the birds and the birds obligingly give us a fine demonstration. We see eagle hawk, peregrine falcon and another variety of falcon - we have forgotten already :-( Each performs beautifully for the falconer and us, the admiring audience. The birds swoop and pounce on their prey. One from the ground, another taking it from the lure which the falconer is swinging round on a rope and the third swoops in and catches ...
... an interior that is "stunning and an experience in its own right" - well I couldn't disagree with that. My fish and chips were excellent and as in Golspie the night before the place was very busy.
Total distance covered 18.7 miles - my left foot was still feeling the effects of blisters but hadn't hindered my progress.
