Historical Traveler Reviews Belmond Casa De Sierra Nevada San Miguel de Allende

    Relaxing retreat in San Miguel

Casa de la Sierra Nevada was the perfect retreat from my daily walk to El Centro, just a short 2 blocks away. Guest service was impeccable, linen was superb and the deep Mexican tile bath tub was a nice reward at the end of the day. I recommend breakfast by the pool and the service and meal at lunch was very impressive. San Miguel itself it so colorful and beautiful, I hope to return soon. This hotel deserves its 5 star reputation.

For those who want the best

The Casa de Sierra Nevada is a fine hotel, truly one of the best I've been to anywhere. The service impeccable, they cater to your every need. The food is outstanding, meals are long and elegant. Our room was as plush and well decorated as they come. There is no better place to come back at the end of a long day exploring San Miguel. Staying here will make your visit all the more memorable.

    Unfortunate dining experience

My wife and I had the misfortune to have our Christmas Eve buffet dinner at this hotel. It was the most expensive and worst meal we had in San Miguel. Our attempt to get some compensation from the hotel for this disaster fell on deaf ears. Our experience calls into question the star rating that this hotel claims. Avoid.

Do not stay at the Casa de Sierra Nevada

I was really disappointed to arrive at the Casa and find poor service and tiny rooms. We paid $200 for a deluxe room and what we got was motel quality. The staff was not what you would expect from a five star hotel. We had to go through the dining room, up the stairs and into our tiny room. The room was dark and the ceilings were low. There was even dust on the side tables and stains on the sheets! I was extremely disappointed. There were no movie selections (US) and most of the channels were tailored to Spanish-speaking guests. The entire night we did not get a wink of sleep because the tower clock was chiming every hour. Then at 7am in the morning, one of the hotel staff was sweeping leaves outside our door and making a lot of noise. Thankfully we were only staying here for one night! This is certainly not five star by US standards. The only five star element would be their toiletries, which were all Hermes. I would recommend selecting a bed and breakfast because for the price you pay, this is not worth it. You will be disappointed. When we had lunch, the staff was more interested in chatting with each other than serving their guests.

We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Guanajuato and the experience was much friendlier and hospitable. I would definitely recommend selecting one of those instead of this stiffy and unwelcoming hotel.

    Total Luxury

Staying at the Casa de Sierra Nevada is pure luxury. The service is outstanding and the dining is gourmet. All the mansions are beautiful and each room is unique. It is expensive but worth it if you can afford it. There is no better place to return to after a day of exploring the beautiful city of San Miguel.

    World Class

It is worth every peso to indulge yourself and stay at the Casa de Sierra Nevada hotel while in San Miguel. Like all the Quinta Real properties, the hotel is gorgeous and one-of-a-kind. The service is outstanding and the food is the best you'll find in all of Mexico. Each room is different, but all are spacious and decorated in authentic Mexican style... it really feels more as if you're staying in a private mansion than a hotel. The Casa Limon house has an incredible courtyard and private garden terrace and pool area where we like to relax mid-day with a margarita and enjoy the view of this truly amazing city. We've stayed in boutique hotels throughout Europe and Latin America and it simply doesn't get more unique or special than Casa de Sierra Nevada. Its expensive, yes, but completely worth it, especially for a special occasion.

    Fabulous food, sevice, ambience

i had dinner/&lunch at the sierra nevada hotel (the parque resturant). 3/03 last year. the service was inpeccable, the restaurant was exquisite. both meals were wonderful, i had their grilled trout etc. i have been reading the latest reviews & am saddened to hear that the service has changed for the worst. this is the top of the line in san miquel, worth every penny. elegant, flawless. i will be back for dinner & as i guest. i hope this was just a bad day.

    Great Ambience, Poor Food Service

The multi-building site of the hotel is charming and the room we had was delightful. We had terrace which we sat out on and had a spectacular view of the church on the zocalo. The prices are high, but the rooms and patios are wonderful and the conceirge very helpful. They must overcome their biggest problem: THE KITCHEN. We waited over one hour for our meal. When it came one meal had to be sent back twice. The waiters were embarrassed but couldn't do anything about it, and there was no price adjustment for two out of four meals that were practgically inedible. In summary: stay there by all means but eat elsewhere!!!!

    Just alright at the casa

The reviewer who noted "there are other charming places to stay in San Miguel" was right, but we booked our stay at the Casa de Sierra Nevada on the strength of past reviews, the hotel's former place in the roster of Relais and Chateaux, and my decade-old desire to travel to the town and stay at the Casa. We were very disappointed. Our arrival lunch in the main dining room was unmemorable, dinner at the restaurant in the Casa in the Park was a great disappointment and the soup the following day was inedible. We never ate a main meal at the restaurant again and noted with sadness that no one else did, either. While the building and it's location was lovely, management was tentative; we requested a move from our first room after a noisy night with our next-room neighbors, whose TV blasted through the thin rustic door that separated our rooms. The second room was fine, but we had to visit the concierge several times to make it happen. One local noted to us that it was well known the Casa has gone down hill. It's a beautiful property with a lovely pool (at which we had to fetch our own chaise cushions each sunny afternoon). We hope beter management will elevate it once again to a fine service establishment -- and do something about the food!

    Casa de Sierra Nevada

This is a lovely hotel but after we arrived we found many equally as nice for considerably less cost. Also, upon arrival, they got our room confused with another party and we had to change rooms. Although they upgraded our room, during the transfer we had a substantial amount of cash stolen which the hotel refused to reimburse or credit us for. Although they told us they called the police, we never spoke to them and requested but didn't receive a report. After several months of complaints by us and our agent, they finally gave us a $100 credit to be applied to our next visit! Stay somewhere else that is more reasonably priced and where the owners are more responsible.

... There is a gelato stand on the corner of the Jardin that claims to have 30 different flavors including avocado, corn, jalapeņo, cactus, alfalfa, shrimp and others. I had avocado, bright green and wonderful flavor.

I don't know about gelato anywhere else in Mexico, just here and in Delores Hidalgo. That is enough for me.
