With a bit of persistence a few gulls and Great Crested Grebes were located and a few more birders turned up but after a brief interlude of interest when one thought he'd seen a Slavonian Grebe (he hadn't) they didn't turn up much either. However they did tell us that they'd been watching a Firecrest at Conway RSPB reserve before heading this way and in return we told them where to look for the Black-throated Diver on Anglesey.

... way down the old A5 through Atcham and then along minor roads via Upton Magna and Haughmond Hill. Just before Upton Magna we saw six Fallow Deer crossing the road. We take this road once or twice most months after dark and probably see deer on more than half the journeys, along with foxes, hedgehogs and the occasional owl or even badger. We saw a Nightjar near Attingham Home Farm in summer ...
