The month of illness and dog attacks

... extra time. Which was nice, considering I used a huge chunk of money a couple weekends later! But that's jumping ahead. I had moments of intense homesickness, where I didn't want to GO home, I wanted to BE home. I'm not looking forward to the flight, I wish I could just snap my heels together and be home in the blink of an eye. One night, after the boys started to feel better, we went to a pizzareia (spelling?) in Brescia. Oh. My. God. I'm sorry Ben, but I ...

Saw some of my favorite sights in Florence, took Jason to get a haircut, ate a ton of pizzas and good food, and all and all had a fab time in Florence.

Have been passing the time giving Jason Italian lessons and he's doing ...

The week of flip flopping decision making

... it was actually quite nice, I stopped where I wanted, took pictures and took my time with it, and when I got hungry I ate. After lunch I walked out on the pier, intending to go to the end and had to pass a couple so involved in making out I'm not sure they knew I was there. I climbed up on a wall and listened to the waves softly crashing against the rocks and the bells attached to the sailboats ringing, and closed my eyes and let the sun and ...

Venice for a day

... toilet. We took the obligatory photos at the Rialto then just planned to walk towards a different section of the Grand Canal, but ended up just wandering through the back streets soaking up the atmosphere. There were tourists everywhere we went and of course shops selling Murano Glass and other souvenirs- I don’t know how they all survive. We ended up losing our way constantly until we got the Grand Canal opposite the ...

Love Verona!

... and Tara went into the toilet and found it was one in the ground that you had to squat over so she refused to go.

We then went to have gelati and search the old city for toilets and found some near the tower which everyone refused to climb as they said they have climbed enough towers. They also refused to go into a church as well. We decided to have lunch before we went to the Roman ruins north of the river. These included a small amphitheatre and lots of ...

Ciao Italy

... wouldn’t see on a Saturday night in Sydney. There were market stalls in one of the piazzas and I found someone selling chestnuts so I was happy- I hadn’t seen any in Innsbruck and they didn’t seem to be too common in Verona. As we were looking for somewhere to eat, we noticed that all of the restaurants had similar menus, and go figure, it was all Italian food. We hardly saw restaurants for any other type of food.

Verona Take Two

... it anyway. And in fact, it was COFFEE SHAKEN WITH MINT. Go figure, that's almost the exact translation. So I had my first espresso. And holy missoula, it was delicious! And afterward, I didn't have my typical coffee-shakes. Most of you have experienced java josie. And need I say more than "malignant M&M?" I don't think so. But I will tell you what. I have found the motor oil that this particular engine should run on, and it is chilled ...

My Fair Verona

... some vitamin C will kick it out. And I have some succa di arancia e annanas. Not bananas as you might think, but pineapple. Go figure.

I'm going into the city to find internet and to eat at a little place I noticed the other day. It's called La Cantina De L'Arena. Which I just realized should actually be Cantina Dell'Arena, right Signora Tumminia? Anyway, it called to me last time I was there but was ...

ParaGliding!

... was a long way below me. We had a 30 minute flight and it was a shame as it was slightly cloudy so not very good for photos. We did though get good views of the lake. My guide decided to spin me in the air, which was fun at first, but I was soon feeling dizzy. Landing was as easy as taking off. Pete landed first and made it look easy as he sat on the ground. I was asked to get out of my seat and told that I would need to run when we hit the ground but ...

Iseo – Geneva

... as the passenger side mirror and front wheel arch brushed the wall of a building. With the damage bill for that, on top of the speeding fines, fast turning this into a very expensive long weekend, I tried to be philosophical and remember that in the many times I’d hired a car this was the first time I’d ever damaged one. My number had to come up at some point, and it was probably a healthy way to have my driving self-confidence knocked down ...
