Anniversary in a Palace

A travel blog entry by paulandmel

We picked the Swiss capital of Bern to spend our fourth anniversary. We splurged and stayed at the five star Bellevue Palace, the best hotel in Bern and the official residence of visiting dignitaries. We arrived from Interlaken, exhausted from all the waiting, and strolled into the Bellevue Palace with our backpacks and sneakers. We got some …

... at the Bar beside me and mentioned that they had been on the Jungfraujoch train with me (they’re from North Carolina). I recognized them and we compared notes about what we had been doing in the Berner Oberland. I mentioned the “parade of cows” to them and showed them a few pictures and a video. They were sorry that they missed that. They will also be heading for Zurich tomorrow and will be flying home on Monday. I may see them again?

But of course, the most important for a backpack is that it suits your back, that it is confortable. v-Deuter Aircontact pro 60+15 backpack http://www.deuter.com/en_DE/backpack-de ...

    This is my favorite hotel

    from dc_traveler_007

This is my favorite hotel of all time. I loved this hotel!! The service was very friendly, accommodating, and responsive...treated us like we were VIPs (I wish all hotels did the same). And the hotel room...talk about extravagance!! We walked into our room and our jaws just dropped...WOW!! Our room even had a gorgeous view that overlooked the river. My only negative...the breakfast buffet was good, but not 5-star great. But, we will definitely come back!

    Tophotel - stilvoll, 5 Sterne!

    from Hypnos

    Guter Service

    from anonymous

Top class all the way in Bern

    from Paul_Geneva

Spent two nights at the Bellevue and found the standards of service and accomodations to be absolutely first class. The Junior Suite was spacious, with a very nice bathroom with excellent shower. Watching the sun set from the balcony overlooking the river is a sight not to be missed. The service from the hotel staff was as you'd expect for a hotel of this class -- efficient, professional, and I'd say even a bit more friendly than you normally find in Swiss hotels.

Do not miss reserving a table for dinner on their Terrace Resturant. They have a broad selection of Swiss wines by the glass. We took a fixed menu and asked the waitress pair up a different Swiss wine with each course -- each wine she choose was exactly the right choice to bring out the flavors of the food and the wine. I'd highly recommend going this route if you dine there.

Overall, a top recommendation for when you're in Bern.

    Top Hotel - Stylish, 5star!

    from Hypnos

A great hotel in a beautiful early 20th century building, the Bellevue is centrally located, with large rooms, confy bed and modern bathroom, all amenities expected from a 5star hotel. Service was efficient and friendly, breakfast was good and dining room was just splendid. Late checkout was also much appreciated, and the car parking was not expensive.

    Thoroughly recommended

    Good service

    from anonymous

The Bellevue is a beautiful old hotel with stunning views and stately public rooms. Sadly was very disappointed by Bern itself which I found dull and a bit miserable. I was glad to get the train out to the Oberland which was spectacular.

The other negative issue was breakfast which was mediocre for a 5*.

However I was really impressed by service on reception who were charming and helpful. A few hours after arriving and being very let down by Bern's souless Christmas market (honestly Manchester's is better by far) we were even more upset to discover our Ipod was missing presumably left on the plane from Munich. One call to reception and in within half an hour the IPod was coming back in a prepaid taxi from the airport where we picked it up after dinner.

    A great hotel

The Bellevue Palace mkaes it much easier for me to do my job when I am in Berne. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the facilities are first rate. It is good value for money, even tho expensive.

Êxellent Service, great infrastructure, breathtaking view

The Bellevue Palace is a benchmark for what a luxury Hotel should stand for. Exellent Service, a completely renovated Grand Hotel and breathtaking view of the alps. Overall a experience that should not be missed.
