    ... on to Slovenia pretty quickly. And it was a great decision as we snaked our way through the mountains, the van coping admirably, with a new stunning vista around each corner. We headed to Bled and a campsite on the lake, but an avalanche of tourists for the Bled festival meant that it was completely full.     ... friends and enjoy a little beach time.

    Just got the news that my niece in Italy had her baby today, so lots of celebrations going on. We're planning to return to Germany and Austria next year, and a side trip to Italy will be in order. We're hoping to get a longer visa for me next March from the German Consulate, so we won't run up against the problem again.

    Ha, Bad Gastein! A little city, all up and down following the U-formed mountain, in the U one has a little waterfall. Lovely! This "bad" name says what it is: a city about water. Empress Sisi came here to follow water cures, and lots of hotels here offer thermal arrangements!

    ... that was right by the lake so we stopped to sample some of Austria's finest. Jess had some Apple strudel and the girls picked various ice cream sundaes that were very impressive. I had something called a Mohr im Hemd (I think) which was phenomenally good.
