Riedstrasse 3 Zermatt, Valais, Swiss Alps, Switzerland, 3920, 27-966-7474
... control recently has broken down, this was the perfect sign to follow, where I planed to cross the border to Switzerland.

Just arrived in late afternoon to Aosta, I was not only already entered to the italian part of the alps but also to the point of good bye. Here I decided not to spend another night in Italy and crossed the border to my homecountry Switzerland a hour later at Calle del Gran San Bernardo.

BIENVENUE EN SUISSE - WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND
Liddes, Valais, Switzerland pajas... the casualties of the Matterhorn.
Zermatt itself is tiny, with only electric taxis. It is much colder than Lauterbrunnen even though it's on the border of Italy.
Switzerland is strange. It has no language of its own. In Bern, Lauterbrunnen and Zermatt they speak German but in Montreux they speak French, even the train announcements change languages. It gets confusing, so I just stick to greeting people in English most of the time. When I had arrived here I was fuming a bit because I ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tonkinDay One – Thursday 10th September – We got up early to say goodbye to our group before departing for the train station to go to Zermatt, our first stop in Switzerland! I was fortunately feeling a little bit better but still skipped brekky. Apparently Sarah had a similar experience the night before, so we thought maybe it was something we had both eaten the day before, but nevermind!

We were rushing a bit for the train and then learned the train station was ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kimmykakWe had packed up the Landy by about 8 a.m., and were ready to plan the route to Val d'Isere. With no roadbook to follow, the GPS was put into use, and a quick check against the maps verified that the best route was probably down towards Milan to join the motorway, and take motorways towards Aosta.

So, not much in the way of navigating to be done, except to check the road signs now and again, so the hunt for bingo photos was driven hard today ...
Aosta, Aosta Valley, Italy dirtyweekendersWe woke "late" (8am) and were the last to leave our bunk. Skipping breakfast, we began our 5 hour journey back to Zermatt. We chose a route that would give us a different view of the valley, but involved 1800m of decent. We paid for it for the next few days. We arrived at our apartment and ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kramertownOn Friday, we continued to "get the most" from our unlimited passes by taking the kids up to 3100m and the top of the Rothorn. Our journey took us up a Cog Railway (entirely inside a tunnel) to a Gondola. From ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kramertown... he left...sigh... There are all sorts of cool shops and places to eat in Zermatt. You can't drive a car into the town, so everyone is on foot through all of the streets. Who would have thought that a place so high in the mountains would be so popular! From there we went up the Simplon Pass and crossed over into Italy. Three countries in one day. Ugh! lol More later from Italy. And pictures and videos soon...I promise!
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland lunababy... mountains with a little chapel next to it. I was just about to head back down when I finally saw the chapel out the corner of my eye, it was white and so quite well camouflaged by all the snow, which was obviously covering up the lake presumably iced over. Walking down to the chapel meant crossing some ski paths, but it wasn't too busy, and I could see where other people had walked up to it by the footprints. I was thinking about the lake though, and ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland sam_continentalHi! I've just waddled back to the hotel after our first full day of skiing. We stuffed ourselfs with a fish fondue (cooked in veg broth, not cheese) for dinner and walked around the village afterwards to burn off some of the calories. The village is really cute, small and best of all- it has no cars! It was advertised as the "car-less village" so every vehicle around here is like an electric cart, which I can say is difficult to dodge ...
