Historical Traveler Reviews of Belle Mare Plage Resort Poste De Flacq

Beautiful Belle Mare Plage

from SELECTASPACE
We had THE best time in this beautiful resort. It's completely true - ignore the negative early reviews that have been posted. I found the service in this hotel to be very attentive and efficient. Every room service order, enquiry, booking etc was dealt with on time. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa which was amazing with own pool and dining pavillion. Fantastic. Great kids club too and very child friendly. Food served in a buffet style each evening which could wear on you if you were there for 2 weeks, but all the same the hotel delivers. Couldn't fault it really...

Holiday paradise

from Sodbury
The hotel was the best we have ever visited, in all respects, having previously visited similarly rated hotels in the Caribbean. The management of the hotel was first class and any enquiries or minor requests were dealt with immediately.

All the staff were efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and varied in choice to suite all tastes.

The beach facilities were first class, and the beach waiters couldn't do enough to help. Swimming was ideal as the reef protects the bay waters and provides for ideal swimming and snorkelling.

At reception we thought we had entered a palace with marble and water features and the welcome we received was warm and friendly. On being led to our room (which was superb) we saw the high standard of maintence that was evident throughout the hotel.

In our room the towels were changed twice a day, the sheets daily, even the beach towels held in our room were changed daily and more were available on the beach if needed.

We could not recommend this hotel highly enough and will be returning next year.

Fantastic

I have never written a review before, but after reading a couple of negative reviews on here I felt the need to give my opinion of our time in this wonderful hotel.

My partner and I chose the Belle Mare Plage to get married. We stayed there for 2 weeks during Sept/Oct 04. The hotel and grounds are stunning, very clean and well kept, the staff were friendly and polite at all times more than willing to help where possible. We stayed in a junior suite with a stunning view of the ocean and could not have asked for more. As for the wedding itself they provided us with a deluxe bungalow for the ceremony and truly gave us a day to remember.

We ate from the buffet resurant most days and found that the food was varied and there was something to suite all tastes, the food was of a high standard. As for the drinks these were no more expensive than the prices charged in a city bar.

The beach was lovely and there was no problem getting sun loungers on a daily basis, the pools were clean and well maintained.

Anybody due to visit this fantastic resort, if you come across 'Ritchie' on the beach do book a trip with him to the waterfall as this is a day to remember.

Great place!

We had a great time there in May last year. The room is very nice. Staffs most helpful and food is also great. Drinks are expensive but didn't spoil my stay at all. People are all very friendly. My husband is normally very fussy but he is very happy with his time there. Beach not very busy as most guests went to the golf course. So this hotel is also great even if you don't play golf!

Ignore the people who've moaned!

Have just returned from the Belle Mare Plage and despite disappointing weather, we loved it. I can only think that the two reviews here which slate it must be written by people who've either mistaken which hotel they were at or are the kind of people who are difficult to please... My only criticism would be the cost of drinks and possibly that half board is compulsory because I'm not a massive fan of buffets and would rather have had the option to spend my money at the a la carte restaurants. That said, the buffet was much better than any other I've had and you do get a credit towards eating at the a la carte restaurants if you prefer. We did a combination of buffet and a la carte and enjoyed both options. For the most part the service was very good, but there were some staff who were less competent, but I did not find any to be rude or unhelpful and most were very accommodating and all spoke English. The resort itself is gorgeous, it's kept to a high standard and the beach was lovely. Yes, the beach outside the Saint Gerain is slightly nicer, but you're not paying the prices of the Saint Gerain..... We had upgraded to a suite and this was the nicest room we've had (and we have stayed at numerous superiour class hotels across the world) with a stunning verandah looking directly on to the beach

I would have no hesitation recommending the resort and would definitely go back

A lovely break

from Baby74
We stayed here in May 2003 and loved every minute of our stay. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were there for a week and found that towards the end of our stay the buffet dinner novelty had worn off but that said there was always a huge selection of different cuisines from across the world and no night was the same in terms of what they were serving. The facilities themselves were gorgeous. The buildings and rooms are all well-maintained and absolutely lovely. The beach was well-maintained and unlike an earlier review we did not find that the pool was in rough shape in the afternoon. Additionally, the beach was perfectly beautiful. My husband enjoyed the complimentary golf and was out on either of the courses everyday. We would definitely go back given our experience there.

Disappointing

from A TripAdvisor Member
Service was inefficient: required extra towel and was told they had none; only one umbrella per room, asked for another, which never came. Food was average. Lack of convenient beach showers. Only two boats a day to the snorkeling location. On the positive side, the golf courses were very beautiful.

Don't go to the Belle Mare Plage

from CDN2
Have just come back from a very disappointing 2-week honeymoon at the Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius.

Beautiful architecture, but the service is absolutely useless. Obviously no training or management provided to the hundreds of staff who float around the place.

The swimming pool is dirty from about lunchtime.

The beach is really bad (you're better off walking 10 minutes to the left, direction of Saint Géran).

To summarize: stay well clear of the Belle Mare Plage, unless you have money to waste!

Paradise is The Belle Mare Plage

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in July 2004 and it was absolute paradise. The photos in the brochure don't do it justice. The best thing about this resort is the staff. You couldn't meet lovelier people from the guest co-coordinators to the cleaners. Everybody was lovely. This is one thing all the guests commented and agreed on. Some people may think this is because they want tips but the resort is cashless so this is definitely not the case, Mauritians are genuinely nice people.

The half board option is fantastic. You are spoilt for choice at breakfast with something for everyone. The restaurant overlooks the beach and there is the option to sit outside, what a way to start the day. At night the buffet cannot be faulted. They will make you Italian, Chinese etc to suit your taste. You choose your own ingredients and they cook it in front of you. It varies every night with plenty of local cuisine as well as themed meals and the desserts are to die for. So much choice. We also ate at some of the other restaurants and these were of the same standard.

The rooms are gorgeous; we were upgraded to a junior suite. The bathroom and dressing area is larger than some hotel rooms. There were twin sinks, a double shower and a lovely deep bath with bath foams etc provided to create an indulgent bath. The bed was also lovely and comfortable with your linen changed every day. The cleanliness of the hotel is second to none. They even change the sand edging the paths.

The beach and water sport facilities are top rate as well. There is plenty to keep kids amused and all activities are supervised. My husband reliably informs me the golf courses were a great challenge as well. The spa and sauna area was worth a daily visit to feel utterly pampered and try the plunge pool if you dared. There was also a pitch and put, floodlit tennis courts and you could hire bikes if all the water sports weren't enough to keep you occupied.

They provided live entertainment at night in the main bar or if you didn't fancy this you could go to one of the other bars or if you just wanted to chill out you could watch one of the many in-house films in your room (which were all modern) or borrow a book or use the internet room. Something for everyone.

As you may have gathered I can't sing the praises of this hotel enough. Paradise really does exist at The Belle Mare Plage.

A great-looking hotel with a lovely buffet

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Belle Mare Plage is situated on the eastern coast of Mauritius. It is a very beautiful hotel and you'll feel great just walking around the premises. Belle Mare is a 5 star hotel and the half board buffet is absolutely stunning. My husband and I love sushi and we were happy to find this every other day. There's a bunch of other restaurants at the hotel as well, but I would still opt for the main buffet restaurant. Breakfast was a bit on the cheaper side. Bread was scarce and being Scandinavians we didn't find cookies/pastries to be very good substitutes. On the other hand we always walked away from breakfast content and ready to take on the beach.

The pool areas at the Belle Mare Plage are nice, but not very big. You walk only 20 meters and you have reached the beach. The beach is nice but I've seen better waters (it isn't dirty though). For a change you can always walk over to the neighbor - Hotel Le Coco Beach. They have a really lovely little lagoon.

There are no other restaurants around the Belle Mare Plage so if you want to go someplace you need a taxi. Taxi is cheap though and they do wait for you if you wish.

The only thing that irritated us during this trip was our day of departure. We had been promised an early breakfast because we had to leave a 6AM. When we reached the buffet restaurant there was nothing for us there and no one to ask. We did complain about this, but nothing was done for us unfortunately.

In all, if you wish to really relax this is a wonderful place, bring lots of books and just hang out on the beach.
