Christmas Panto'

... we have had since we arrived. Lots of laughs and reduced to tears in the end. I think the 2 kids may have also enjoyed it.
The Villain from Coronation Street and the star, Aladdin, from Hollyoaks. A pleasure for the ladies in the audience.

Great night.

End of term. 4 months in the UK

... across the road. Geoff has joined the gym which is also just across the road. A noticeable difference here is the congested roads and living space. Bound to happen when you squeeze such a large population into a small space.

Weather

We think the main “cultural” points of interest seem to be weather and food. I don’t think a day has gone by without a comment about the weather and how we must be missing the summer ...

Farewell to Stoke!

... decision to reside there has been entirely mine (albeit a decision born of convenience). It is perhaps to be expected that leaving Stoke once and - effectively - for all, has brought it home once again that, actually - this is a pretty big deal! All I was feeling was the sense of vertigo that is caused by the shape of one's life changing radically - and rapidly. It's like being on a fairground ...

I will add some photo's when I arrive on the isle of Tasmania, and I will write again once I am over the jet lag.

Day 2 - The Reamer

... the gorge up the gorge” debacle followed by kilometres of what, bog? on top of a mountain?!! where the hell were we?!! Also, damn the reservoir where, having run out of water, Ryan requested that I wade in and try and get some water for boiling. Cold! Muddy! Undrinkable! Squidgy!

The Calm before the Storm

When Al and I were considering our honeymoon, we knew it had to be special. It's a one-off opportunity, and probably / hopefully the last holiday in 20 years that won't involve children! We thought initially that we were going to travel through France and stay in luxury chateaux along the way. Al has not really been to rural France and I remember those holidays as a child as some of my favourites ever! The idea of visiting the Loire and ...

Scouser's paradise

Scousers

For people who don't know: Scouse is the accent and dialect of English found in the city of Liverpool and also in some adjoining urban areas of Merseyside. This is particularly strong within areas of neighbouring boroughs of south Sefton and Knowsley.

When we arrived at the hotel, the tenant, a lady in her late 60's welcomed us, quite warmly, errr I think... I must say the I consider my english as quite OK, and for having spent ...

... of the Thames, enjoying the best London town has to offer. Lovely Knutsford, and my very sociable social group have claimed me back for another week though. It may not be for the full four weeks as its been noticed that I'm ahead of the class and have been offered the chance to take the final exam a week early and return to start work after three weeks. Its a conundrum and I'm enjoying it up here, but I'd also like to get on with the job and ...

Luxury in the north west.

... and the bakery where a portly fellow made me a delicious baguette with very fresh ingredients. I've also enjoyed a quick walk in Tatton park which is the real draw-card in this area, a 2000 acre section of the best country England has to offer. It's really something, I'm sure I'll spend quite a bit of time there. The website tells of all the deer and sheep which live there but I've not seen any yet. I must remember to bring the camera next week as its very beautiful. seeya Ian

Canterbury Tales and Northern Moonkays

... reason, the site wasn't accepting my credit card. I was a little perturbed (for the obvious) but didn't think it was too big of a deal, I could just get my ticket in London.

Helen had told me that I should be at the bus stop outside her dorm at 8:30 for my 9:05 bus. I took this as a suggestion, not as a requirement. When I watched one bus pass as I was walking to the stop at 8:32, I assumed another one would come by in 10 minutes. At 8:55, I realized I was in ...
