Briançon
Mägge and Hille left early in the morning to head back to Davos. We set off to Briançon to explore one of Vauban's fortified towns. Vauban was a military engineer to King Louis XVI during the mid-18th century. He designed around eight fortified towns in the region, including Briançon, which is now a UNESCO world heritage site. The town is known for its many sundials so we enjoyed hunting for them as we went on our walking tour. We ...
Col d'Izoard

When I reached the pass and had some time to catch my breath and gulp down lots of water, I looked across the road and saw Tanya and Mägge happily shopping at a roadside stand. It turns out that it was a candy stand and it was the vendor’s last day up at the top! Tanya was absolutely thrilled as she loves candy and so we came away with a good haul of candy to munch on over the next few days. We decided it was too windy to have lunch at the top so ...
Col du Lautaret
... where we’d been and looking ahead to the pass. The total elevation gain from La Grave was 814m and a distance of about 11km. The pass wasn’t nearly as high as some of the others but we were both starving by this point and ready for a break. The rest of the gang were parked at a restaurant at the top and were just finishing up their meal. They rubbed it in our faces and we were going to sit down to eat, too, but the kitchen was closed for lunch – it ...
The toughest bike ride of my life

Mägge, Hille, Tanya and Rod have all been mountain biking and road riding for anywhere between 15-25 years and have done long distance, multi-day rides like the BC Bike Race and the Trans Alps. I on the other hand am an amateur cheese and chocolate taster, near professional patisserie eater that ...
Col de l'Iseran
... of me. Anyhow, glad that we had finally met up, we unloaded cold weather gear and had a tasty lunch at the top. They then rode back down while I drove back with everything. We stopped in Bonneval for a café au lait and then carried on back to camp. Even though I didn’t get any pictures of them, the drive was beautiful (all 4 times up/down!). I can see why the local drivers know the corners so well and can drive at the speeds they do!
