Flight of the Condor

... streets - serving great fresh orange (for Kevin) and Prosecco for me!!! Bliss. Booked out on the next available flight - which was to Madrid and booked a cheap aparthotel for the night before flying on somewhere warm.

It just coincidentally took us to Lanzarote, which we know and love and we thought, what the heck, let's just go and chill out there till the dollars run out!

... turned up and Jen had stepped in to take up the lessons aboard. The two children Orlando and Allegra were very nice kids. Jen was worried as she got seasick easily. A cheery lass from Seattle - the same as Bradley, so they had common ground from the word go.

The boat looked very tired, but the worry was that there was so much gear we felt should have been there in tip top condition, and it wasn't. Oh dear!! Kevin was helping ...

Second Last stop....

... a job prepares 18 year olds for traveling and then helps them adjust when they get back. Like a kind of social guidance counselor. To me that seemed like a BS job.

Quite bizarre that people stop to let you cross the street here. A much more laid back feel than the rest of Italy. Especially at around 12:30pm when almost every single shop besides McDonald's closes for siesta until about 4pm.
I saw some German correctness as well. Our bill was out by 1 ...

... 8211; it’s a beautiful walk and it’s easy to forget just how close you are to a village. There is a whole network of paths here that we wander off on and discover a fascinating waterfall – fascinating mainly for the fact that the rock itself, over time, has actually moulded itself to the shape of the waterfall, it’s very intriguing. We spend quite a while at the waterfall, it smells fresh and I’m interested in all the different ...

On the way to breakfast there is a couple standing outside their room who say hello, we respond hello and they ask if we are English – yes we are and so are they. They are quite despondent because for some reason they didn’t know when they booked this accommodation that it was literally in the middle of nowhere – there is nothing around us other than mountains and the walk to the beach. They wanted to ...

City under the sea

The place we are going to today is Pula and more specifically the ruins of the ancient city of Nora. This city enjoyed the status of being the main city on Sardinia, being utilised by the Phoenicians and the Romans – it was thought to be abandoned around the 7th Century. The sea has, over time, claimed parts of the old city, so some of the ruins lay under the sea today. The ruins that can be seen are fairly substantial ...

... beach. The sea was crystal clear and there were very few people around at this time of day as we set out along the shore. It was a long stretch of sand, which ended in some rocks and a couple of boats, which we couldn’t get around. We decided to take a path slightly inland and then spent the next couple of hours on the headland trying every which way to get either around or over it to get to the other side, but every path we took came to a definite end. We ...

... Pietro. We took our car on the ferry and John did a great job of backing our car from the parking lot onto the ferry boat (driving backwards the entire time). You have to back onto the ferry boat so that your car is facing forward when the ferry arrives at the next island. So, we arrived on the island of Isola San Pietro and stayed in a very nice town there called Carloforte. Very old fashioned town and quite charming. There are about 7,000 people on the island of ...

It was good to listen to him giving medical advice in italian to try and learn the vocabulary and in the meantime I tried to give some dietetic advice too. Other groups, did activities with the local children  or helped clean/tidy up the town. Went to a few nice beaches around Carbonia...the water was sooo clear! Very very crowded beaches though as August is the month where every italian city is deserted ...

... extension (about 14ft) it was duly attached between the mast and the sail and, for about 5 minutes, we were having a glorious sail when the pole duly un-telescoped and slid back inside itself (about 8ft). Just as I was going forward to sort this out, the piece of string holding the pole at the ideal height, decided to part company with the mast and the pole duly took on the well known riggers droop (like brewers droop but involving string ...
