Last Stop! #8

Hello again! Well we're done driving, we returned the car tonight. The past few days since I last wrote have been a bit of a blur becuase Pam has been sick again since Auckland! She FINALLY went to the doctor after one of the owners of the hostels said "what is WRONG with YOU? You might have MENINGITIS!!!" and that got her to the doctor haha... well its not really funny... but Pam hates doctors and was reluctant to go, anyways they SAY she doesn't have meningitis so that is good, just has a r...

Day 10 - New Plymouth to Bulls

... soaking up the rays – fabulous. Headed back to the highway and headed into Wanganui. This is a big town and has everything you could wish for if you were to live here. Continued our journey south and found a campsite in a small town called Bulls. The campsite is situated adjacent to the main highway, so its definitely the noisiest camp site we have stayed in. The owner was legless when we arrived (he had ...

Where it all began - New Zealand

As they contemplated the awakening Auckland Airport Koru lounge at 6am he said to her - "Well dear - we're nearly home", adding, " where shall we go next?" "We're not going anywhere for at least 2 years" she said. But he knew she didn't really mean it and quietly smirked as he browsed travel brochures and dreamed on.

It Hit Me.

... quote rings true: "Good friends are like stars; even though you can't always see them, they are always there." New Zealand has given me some of the best times of my life, and I will treasure them forever in a special place in my heart. Although it is going to be a huge adjustment being back in the States, and reverse culture shock is going to be a challenge, I know it's time and I'm ready. Can't wait to see everyone and catch up on life! Love, Ash.

My Last Assignment Ever!!!

It has been discovered that coastal populations, such as that of Russia's Taimyr and Kola peninsulas, in the Pechora river basin and on the Commodore Islands. Such areas are at risk due to the pollution build-up in blubber of seals and whales, which are a large part of the Inuit diet. The populations of these areas ...

On Kiwi Culture...

... to) am ALWAYS hungry, and after eating, get hungry about an hour later. I think it is probably because of the food that they feed us... maybe it's got something in it that makes us want to eat more? Who knows... There is more variety of restaurants and cafes to eat at in town, though and I think I am going to have to go maybe one night a week and eat out, just for some substance :) One thing I have noticed that I subconsciously do is to compare people that I see or meet here to ...

A mouse lived in a windmill...but not one of these

... towards somewhere the name of which I can't remember (help me out here Dan!). There was allegedly a 'windmill viewing point' here so we pulled into the carpark and took a wander up some steps. The 'viewing point' seemed to be very much like a stand overlooking a sports pitch - it had some information on the windmills (the tall white ones with two blades, rather than the quaint little buildings with four-blade ...

On the way at last

... the stairs! Eventually the poor stressed desk attendant took us through a dark room, and over to this door that we would never have found on our own! Luckily I was on only the fourth floor so that wasn't too far to climb. In the morning the lift still wasn't working and I was unhappily envisiging carrying my suitcases down the stairs - but no, the poor bellboys were hard at work carrying everyone's suitcases down, just as they had had to carry them up, the night before.

River Valley

We jumped from about 10 meters up next to a water fall (see the pics). We saw Mt Doom (from lord of the rings). When we arrived in river valley we had a huge roast dinner and then went to bed in a 32 bed dorm. Was an interesting experience... Next day we went swimming, sun bathing, volley ball and football. Sophie got eaten alive by lots of flys, mosquitos and pretty much anything else with a mouth.
