... you only eat the flesh in the middle not the skin of each section, they are really bitter.

had a pretty good day, although, the whole day it rained. As soon as we came out for dinner though it decided that it was going to stop raining, i think that it might do this quite a bit. Raining during the day and good weather in the evening.

Moving over to Penang tomorrow, there are two ferries from here that go direct, only 60ringgit.
Pantai Tengah, Perlis, Malaysia jonsalt... drank a couple of beers, and planned to leave for a Ferry to Thailand the following morning (Brian has worked in Thailand for several months, and apart from being an all round good guy, he is a useful guide to set me off in Thailand). However, another interesting American chap called David sat down with us and we ended up engaged in fascinating conversation until 3:00a.m about religion, politics, philosophy, differences with our countries, quantum mechanics and all that ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia jamiemeasures... to walk up heaps of stairs
to get to the top. It was definately worth it though, the waterfall
and pools were beautiful. We were tempted to go swimming but we still
had alot of ground to cover so we climbed back down the stairs to the
car, drove back down the road to the cable cars. The view from the
cable cars was amazing. We were so high we were in the clouds so
visibility at times wasnt that great, but as the cloud passed we had
a great view of the ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia kaylaandbryden... In the afternoon we went to the Langkawi cable car; built by the Swiss this goes up over the jungle to 708m for breath taking views across the island. The top station has viewing platforms and a suspension bridge over the jungle canopy. Well worth the trip.

Then we took (another) taxi back stopping at a small marina on the way for a snack - unusual filled steamed buns.

Beers on the beach again and local Malay style dinner, £2.50 ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia martynandsarah... The next stop was a fish farm along the river for a look at different fish. Walter, Donna and Alice petted a sting ray, and even put their hand in the mouth. I watched, they said the skin was like velvet and the mouth was very soft. Barracuda, groupers, spitting fish ( yes they spit) and other species were observed by the group. At this point we stopped at the Bat Cave and went in to see many bats and interesting rock formations that ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia nedk... motorbiking is par for the course, but after 3.5 months of exploring the region by foot and bicycle, for me it was a rite of passage. I couldn't have picked a better place for the milestone. As far as islands go, Langkawi is pretty much perfect. Long stretches of soft sand enclose an interior landscape of jungles, mountains, and farmland. In 1986 the island was designated a duty free zone, and many find fault in the resultant ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia beckysanWe were to be picked up at 8am to be brought to the ferry terminal at georgetown, but apparently the direct crossing to langkawi was going to be too rough so we ended up being brought by minivan back to the mainland on the roadbridge and were driven to the nearest ferry crossing to langkawi thus cutting an hour off the ferry crossing all at no extra cost. the minivan driver was ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia sarahanddermot... All ends well though and I am safely deposited at the Sunset Beach Resort. I love this place. I opted for the Sunset 1 catagory of room, which are closest to the beach, have a very comfortable bed (my barometer for a good hotel room) and a very cool indoor/outdoor bathroom. What really sets this place apart though are the super friendly, cannot do enough for you staff. If you want a ...
Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia kts17... the mainland in a town that i don't even know the name of now and then i could get a bus to Penang. It's getting late though..but i buy the ticket. Im successful with this boat but not looking forward to finding the bus station in the dark once i get there and didn't know if there was even a bus (even tho i was told there was, doens't mean anything). Good fortuante came to me though as i ended up sitting next to the only other white person on the boat ...
Satun, Thailand tracymillerWe returned the car at the airport and boarded our flight back to Kuala Lumpur, each carrying a bottle of duty-free liquor, the maximum allowed.

I've found the trip a little short and I would like to come back someday with Anna, and perhaps Leonard and Steph as well. Then I can go island hopping and explore Langkawi a little more.
