Tel Aviv and beyond!

FIRST NIGHT IN ISREAL When we got off the plane in Tel aviv it was 12:00 at night we got our car which was ok, and drove to our insanely gross hotel though it was right next to the beach. Next door to our hotel was a little restaurant and my dad went and got sesame chicken strips, hamburger in a French bread roll, French fries, and a Sprite. It was awesome we ate it in one sec, though it was not very Israeli we still loved it (I think the sesame strips could use some soy sauce. I need a bed r...

The ridiculously long flight home: retrospective

... That cost me the absolute last of my cash--I actually had to pay the guy with my leftover euros from Barcelona.
During my two very laid-back days in Tel Aviv, about the only notable thing that happened to me occurred while waiting at the train station (for the train that never came). As I was sitting on a bench, two adorable tiny stray kittens came right up to me and proceeded to repeatedly battle each other. It was immortalized on camera and totally made it worth having sat ...

Ohne spezielle ...

Well, I'm officially lame

... else I’d been in Israel, Tel Aviv had turned out to be nothing like I had expected. A lot of people I met there scoffed when I said that my mere eight days weren’t enough. Most said you could do the place in two weeks – it is, after all, tiny. But in a place so diverse that a forty minute drive can take you from a beech party to a Franciscan parade, and another thirty into the heart of the world’s best-known and least ...

Day 27: Bikes and Peepers

... the time we found it, but the guy at the front desk gave us a break on the admission price, and we took a quick walk through the several floors of exhibits.

After a ride back to the port area where we took a break, Kevin headed back to return his bike and rest, and I biked down the Tayelet again, past all the hotels and restaurants and traffic and honking and music on my left; ahead of me, Jaffa on a hill; on my right, the ...

They also took us on a tour of the old city of Nablus. Nablus has been a key battle ground for both Isalmic militants and the IDF. Although I'm sure the rockets that were fired from Nablus had some detrimental affect to the ...

An Unexpected Break in Israel

Yet to see the Dead Sea, and with a few extra days to fill before having to return to Egypt. I had decided to go to Tel Aviv. The prospect of seeing another country was too much to resist, and considering how close I actually was, it wasn't going to be a huge diversion. I caught the early morning bus from Wadi Musa down to Aqaba and hopped back over the border into Eilat. I booked the five hour bus to Tel Aviv and had about an hour to ...

Last Ticket out of Israel

... station, there are no signs of war in Tel Aviv...just a bunch of tourists hanging out on the beach. Yesterday I walked to the Air Canada office in Azrieli Center, a huge modern office/shopping tower complex. I asked the lady at the desk if I could change my ticket to leave from Israel and hopefully make it home in the next few days ...

Arriving in Tel Aviv

... sofas with lots of people just eating, drinking and people watching. The boardwalk extended about a mile down the beach. We spent about 4 hours just walking, sitting, drinking, and had a wonderful ice cream . The weather was perfect - probably close to 80 with beautiful blue sky, slight breeze. Such a relaxing day to start our trip. We then walked back to the hotel, stopping at a local market for water (although you can drink the water here), various cheeses ...

Shabbat Shalom

... claimed to be a witch and refused to say where he was going next because we might all be dark angels.

Then there was "Little Ben" who was in same room as Jake and me and was a bad stereotype of the southern Cali frat boy with a beer belly that would arrive home between 5AM and 7AM every morning with a beer in his hand and sleep all day. We ran into him a few times during daylight hours and he was wandering ...
