Two week luxury break with my sister Linda

Saturday 15 March Met Linda at airport - I had already booked into our hotel - Bel Aire Princess. What a hotel - Linda sure knows how to pick them. Taxi ride back to hotel - even Linda said hotel was fabaroonie. Complementary drink in bar after we had unpacked. Oh my Linda has brought half her wardrobe - flip-flops/shoes/handbags/jewellery (all matching of course). Quarter length trousers, shorts, jeans of varying colours, matching tops. Couple of dresses, two jackets, spangly cardigans, hair...

Bemused in Bangkok

Easy trip in on Saturday from Saigon. The airport there is like a lot of new international airports - efficient but with very little to keep you amused in the international terminal. Got through immigration very fast at the new Bangkok airport - I have not been here before other than in transit. I was met as planned and as it was 10.30 had a very good trip to the hotel. Five lane highway with NO SCOOTERS! I had also forgotten that in Thailand they drive one the left (wonder what happens when ...

Day 18 - Bangkok

Hotel is lovely so glad we had pre-booked. You can tell its in a slightly more up market area. The sad thing is you see an awful lot of white men with Thai girls and its easy to guess whats going on yuck! Thailand is much cleaner than India! On arriving we immediately missed all the dust! Its a bit like Malaysia but seems cleaner and tidier. Had my first green curry, my mouth was on fire! But it was good! Slept for most of the day too, so didn't do much.

Day - 19 Bangkok

Today saw the Grand Palace which is amazing the colour and decor is incredible. Then took a boat trip for 1 hour which was fun, whizzed past some of the more important sites in Thailand such as the Royal barge musuem, ah well time is limited and we must update our travel blogs! ;o) Also so the big red swing thing, definitely missing a tour guide and the rough guide but hey, we are here for 3 days have to travel light and so we are managing with what we can! Booked our transport to Cambodia to...

Day 20 - Bangkok

Today was a bit frustrating, we decided it would be a cheaper option to get the Cambodian Visa from the actual Embassy. The tour operators were charging about 1,000 baht each visa. But honeslty I would now recommend that people do that. As to start with the address of the Cambodian embassy had changed from the one given in the rough guide, although the people were very friendly at the old address and gave us a map to the new location (Now 518/4 Pracha Uthit Rd, SOI Ramkamhang 39, Wangthongla,...

Bangkok

Bangkok is so much cleaner than I thought and compared to india and even Malaysia, it is more developed and has found its feet as a tourist destination. But I did not want to come to Thailand. I have an adversion to things that the average person thinks are great. Bangkok is very westernised. In older times, invading armies would rape, pillage and burn, and nowadays the same things happens by companies setting up Pizza Huts, sex tourism, boots and italian restaurants. Its the same reason that...

We Made It!

All the anticipation is finally over and today was the day we start our worldwide journey. Our first stop was in Sydney for a quick change over. Its true what they say about Sydney, the weather is terrible. It was blowy, and the rain tumbled down. Wasn't too sure how the take off would be, or even if we would be taking off. Bangkok was getting closer. Three movies, a couple of drinks later, we were already in the decent upon arrival to Bangkok. The new airport in Bangkok is massive, and those...

Leaving Thailand

I sent a entry yesterday but I'm not sure that it registered. This is so easy to join but a pain to negotiate! Any way for those who don't know one of our cases never arived - so no shoes, no toiletbags, no jewellery (Mary's!), no chargers or link cables but it arrived safely yesterday evening so panic over. We've had agreat time here and have seen and done a fair bit. 1st day we took a boat up the very very busy river and saw the fusion of east and west, ancient and new in all its glory. Sha...

Off to Bangkok to see our friends

Said goodbye to all the staff. Taxi on time to take us directly to our new hotel in Bangkok. After an uneventful journey for 3 hours we arrived and after a few u-turns found our hotel, which was situated in the Egyptian area of Bangkok. Nice hotel and nice room. Walked around the local area and then back to pool at hotel and to text our Thai friends "Pom" and "Boong" who we originally met in Laos, when we were all trying to go tubing in Vang Vieng. We just kept bumping into them all day in di...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Bel Aire Princess Hotel Bangkok

Poor service and dirty

from ARCS81
On arrival, having booked several months before was forced to wait for around an hour to check in (at 3pm). The room had a wet patch on the floor, and the bed cover sheet was dirty. I returned to the lobby and asked them to rectify these problems, which they (with visible reluctance) said they would do - after waiting i was advised that the problems had been corrected. However, they had simply removed the bed cover bithout replacing it, and dried the carpet a bit. The worst hotel in my four stop asian holiday.

Great location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed 2 nights in Feb 05. The Hotel was fine for a 3 star hotel and such a short stay. The staff were fantastic, excellent location with the Night markt and the skytrain just minutes away. I have to agree the room was large but a bit tired maybe it was that particular floor. But it did not spoil our stay. Extra mention for staff at the hotel. We arranged transportation to Hua hin through them at a very reasonable price. The driver was employed by the hotel.. what a gentleman! He picked us up from Hua hin 8 days later for our second night at the Bel Aire..at an even more resonable price.. I know he was paid but nothing was to much trouble. Would recommend this hotel for a short stay..Great staff and location..

Highly Recommended

We stayed here for 3 nights mid April and I cannot recommend it enough. I agree with all the other reviews, the location is great, the rooms are really spacious and the food in the restaurant was wonderful.

All in all, it made our stay in Bangkok very enjoyable.

Excellent Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Arrived in Bangkok with no accom booked and so went through the help desks in the airport arrivals area. What a mistake: paid 90 Euros for two nights for a hotel not centrally located and in poor condition. Jumped on the internet and found Bel-Aire and booked it straight away. Were intending to stay only one night before heading down the coast, but ended up staying three! Staff go out off their way to ensure your experience is pleasant. On check-in we were upgraded to a room on level 16- massive rooms,DVD player. We came back and stayed 1 night before flying back home: imagine our pleasure when checking in, we were told we had been upgraded again! Very impressive experience, very attentive staff, nothing to fault during our stay.

Highly recommended

Just came back from a 4 days stay at this hotel. Exceeded my expectation. We were placed on the 16th floor and the room was huge. No bath tub but with the water shortages Thailand is currently experiencing, its just as well.

5 mins walk to the main road and plenty of shops and eateries around. Try the cafe inside Foodland (24 hr supermarket). Transportations are no problem. Taxis and tuktuks aplenty outside but insist that they use the meter otherwise they will quote a flat fare that is ridiculous e.g. we were quoted a flat rate of 200 Bt to go to MBK (mall) which we refused and paid only 50 Bt by meter!

Not very convenient to walk to the nearby Nana BTS Station with baby stroller as road pavement is uneven and quite narrow.

Room service (if you're dead tired to venture out again) is quick and good. Only be prepared to read your preferred dish in Thai (as written in the menu) as sometimes the staff can misunderstood the english version.

Breakfast not very interesting but adequate mix of western and asian taste.

Locality is great with many bargain souvenirs stalls along main road. Plenty of eateries. Big malls conveniently reachable by Skytrain (100 Bt for a one day pass).

All in all, enjoyed our stay in this hotel and will definitely recommend Bel Aire to anyone.

Great Hotel

from Kristy
Just back from this hotel and thought it was great. Very modern lobby, large rooms and decent size pool area. Hotel was in a good location to get round Bangkok, near the sky train and also not too far from a large shopping centre.

Would stay here again if back in Bangkok

Great

We stayed in Feb 05. This is an excellent hotel - the location is great, the rooms were quiet and huge, a lovely pool and its only 5 mins walk from the Nana Skytrain station. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

The buffet breakfast was yummy and the price was excellent. I will definately stay there when next in Bangkok and have no hesitation recommending it to anyone

Ok, maybe a little dissappointed!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having stayed at several Bangkok hotels, I decided to try the Bel Aire Princess on my visit in November, The Lobby is very modern and welcoming, I had to wait 30 mins for the room to be made ready.

When I got in the room, I was a little dissapointed, the room was not to modern, ahd the bathroom had seen better days.

Overall a OK Hotel, maybe not four stars as stated.

A real surprise!

from Lynkin1
Picking a 3 star hotel in Bangkok was alsways a bit risky but after entering the contemporary hotel lobby and being greeted with a bow i was completly surprised!! The rooms are of 3 star standard but so comfortable and they turn down your sheets everynight with sweeties on your pillow!!! Bangkok has so much to offer all we did was eat breakfast ( a little pricey but gorgeous!) and head off until early evening. The hotel taxi service was a godsend. Agree a price and let them take you where you need to go or get the skytrain - clean, comfortable and not too busy and very very cheap!!! I would recommend this hotel to anyone - a great location, great staff and so modern. Brilliant!

oh , get a taxi to the restaurant Eat Me - amazing!!!!

would stay again no problem!
