... a lot of things) and extremely clean...just a nice place to be. It also felt really safe, and the subway system was amazing- really smooth and quiet, completely brand new. We also just enjoyed all the relaxing parks and nice traditional Chinese places that we found, and the funny conversations we've had with people who don't speak any English!

Yesterday we took the train all day from Beijing to Shanghai, and the train was massive..there was space for 5 people ...

... Chinese. The city itself wouldn't be anything special without the West Lake and it's green surroundings, which are a refreshing change from the crowded Shanghai. In Hangzhou, I rented a bike and cycled around the lake exploring the surroundings as well. The only problem with bike was that it was too small, so you can't lift the seat high enough to straighten your legs so at least for me, it's impossible to ride uphills without getting a fierce pain in my knees. The smartest ...

The Summer Palace

... a bit disappointed that the dialogue was dubbed and in English, with Chinese subtitles. The show in Kunming was better I thought. However, Stevie and Josh seemed to enjoy it so that was good. The show finished at 9pm and by coincidence we met up again at Fish Nation which serves non-Chinese food like Fish and Chips and spaghetti. So thats two nights in a row I didn't have Chinese but I intend having Peking Duck tomorrow.

What is the legacy of the Games?

... 01, 2008 Place your ad hereThe Chinese national government spent more than 40 billion dollars on the recent Beijing Olympics, a sport event which spanned just two weeks and mobilized the entire nation's energies. After any event of such enormous proportions successfully comes to a close a range of questions relating to its effect on the future are bound to arise. Are Chinese feeling more cosmopolitan now than before and will this impact on how they travel ...

Forbidden City

... From what I have seen, its one of the more likable big cities I've been to. All the horror stories I was told about the place before I got here turned out to be a gross exaggeration. Not sure if its just because they've cleaned it up for the Olympics or if I've just seen worse in places like Cairo, Athens and Rome. In any event I thought Beijing was a wonderful city and would love to come back one day.

... getting in one! The next thing I knew I was standing outside the hostel and it was light outside!!! Sunday 27th April I woke up at 11am feeling like I was close to death and in desperate need of the toilet. As I climbed down the ladder from my bunk bed with my eyes still half closed I heard someone shout "Good morning Matt". As I turned around I was greeted by the beautiful sight of the fat Polish guy sitting on his bed using his laptop in a tiny pair of underpants! That's ...

... out with us, he turned and asked, "how much?". We told him, "nothing, he just gave it to us". The kid looked shocked. Our new friend started walking us to where the bus stop was, and tried his best to converse with us in English. We walked at least ten blocks in the opposite direction as Tiananmen square when he stopped at a bus stop. I read the number on the sign, and it said 60. The kid spoke with one of the ladies at the stop and I saw his face ...

Hanging Out In Beijing

... bargaining at the Pearl Market. I eventually moved to another frisbee player's, Candice's, couch. I spent a bit of time sleeping and watching movies because, hey, that's what I wanted to do. I did venture around the city some, to include finding myself in a fairly poor part of town. I got out of there as fast as I could before anybody got any bright ideas. I tried some more of the local cuisine as well. I really ...
