Beijing, Beijing, China sinocenter... shopper or cash strapped western backpacker either! Sandwiched in between the malls were the traditional Beijing Hutongs, which are mini markets with stalls selling souvenirs or food. We decided to forgo the Scorpion kebabs on offer (especially as they were still alive!)
So that should have been where the adventure in China ended, but unbeknown to me my time in Beijing was just beginning!!
To cut a long ...

Tomorrow I will have a free day, as Dr. Crowe thought that after such a late flight (since it was pushed back a whole hour) it will be good to sleep in, but tomorrow we are going to go as a group and visit the local markets and maybe bike around the wall (its 10 miles, so we will have to see). Well I think im going to finish the last 45 minutes of my flight with a nap, as always, enjoy the pictures! PS. While I may have ...
Beijing, China apowell5... Beijing, China From Lisa: China! What a thrill! The Olympics were amazing - from the moment we arrived in the airport and were met by the Fuwas (the cute Olympic mascots) giving hugs to everyone! So many incredibly nice people, very proud of their city and of the fact that they were hosting the games. One World - One Dream was this year's slogan and it was everywhere, but after a few hours, you really began ...
Beijing, China whatboundaries... found out we had come to the wrong police station and that we needed the landlord to be present as well. Failure to do so would result in arrest, we were warned. So after a few phone calls we arrange to meet the landlord and his wife at a different police station in a quieter part of town. It was a smaller building but there was just as much inactivity going on as the bigger station we visited. We went from room to room to find the appropriate ...

But China-based surfers beware: because the site is based on Typepad, it is usually blocked in China. Unless promises on Internet openness are kept, try reaching it using a proxy if the Hutong is closed to traffic. Infrastructure aficionado David Feng tracks the opening and service of Beijing's mass transit system. "I like to get from point A ...
Beijing, China happysheep... in attempt to beat the crowd, we trekked out of the city and to the foot of the Fragrant Hills. We decided to take a cable car up the mountain to save time and to also avoid the crowd of people that were hiking up the narrow mountain pathway. It was nine in the morning and already I was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of people climbing up the mountain. Once we got to the top, there was barely any room to move around. People were fighting and ...
Beijing, China guavamama... worm. One day we finally found people who spoke English but we should of known there would be a catch. As we crossed the road 2 chinese students approached us and started chatting. They looked honest enough and seemed really friendly........ They took us to see their artwork saying it was free but when we got there the hard sell kicked in.Trying to sell us some sob story that they'd never get to go to England unless they could get enough donations. Their English was better ...
Beijing, China ravntina... have been like 150 years ago, when the emperor retreated here during the summer months. However, there were a few places that had that unmistakeable "plastic" feel - like Disney meets the Far East. Restored canalways with kitschy waterfront stores and neon pink lanterns, among other things. Old-time photo shops abounded - you could dress up like the Imperial Family and have your picture taken ...
