... and surveyed the offerings at the many food-stalls around. Lots of tacos/frijoles (refried beans)/queso (cheese) but all part of some kind of pollo (chicken)/jamon (ham)/res (beef) ensemble. So we gave it a pass in favor of one 'assembled on demand' taco vendor who loaded up crunchy tacos with guacamole and/or frijoles from containers in her cart. ... El Retiro, where i checked in, had dinner and an early night. The place is locally owned, and staffed by locals which was good to support but meant the service was, in line with Guate mentality, slow and inefficient.
In the mornings light I took a look around EL Retiro, a lovely little place right on a fast flowing turquoise river with thatched cabins and river side palapas strewn with hammocks. There was also a river side sauna, which would have to be tried out ...

... In Antigua we stayed in a nice hostel in the middle of the city with a bar and TV so we were able to watch most World Cup matches.
One of the guys who worked there, Dieter a guatemalan guy who loved Australia and Tequila shots, made sure we were never short on booze. One of the first nights we went on a pubcrawl with him and about 30 other people and it was a great night. Yvonne ended up dancing on the counter in one bar and I almost got in a bar fight with ...

... at the TSA checkpoint, so a few folks had to go back and get new ones. Guess what? My hair set off the security tube again so I got the pat down and hand swabs, again. The good news is I didn't try to walk in the men's room like I did yesterday morning :)
