... then on to Greece. Special Note about Sardinia- we really enjoyed being able to walk safely around the cities and towns at night while in Sardinia. There is still very little crime here and you can walk anywhere at night without having to worry about being pick pocketed or mugged. The locals are very proud of this and also very worried that things will change. We hope they can keep things in check because it really makes it a special place to visit.
Cala Gonone, Sardinia, Italy johnandrich... interest, the little basilica of San Símplicio, on the street of the same name. The simple granite structure is set in a piazza apart from Olbia's bustle, making it a good spot for a sit down. Claimed to be the most important medieval monument in the whole of Gallura - a region hardly famed for its artistic heritage - the church formed part of the great Pisan reconstruction programme of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, though, it must be said ...
Olbia/Porto Cervo (Sardinia), Italy, Italy katstravel... hours then onto their Australia bound flight. I think it was going to take some 30 hours to get home. Not as long as us but our pace is certainly more relaxing. The next morning Shaz and I duck off to the supermarket to restock the cupboards then refuel and head out on our way to Alghero on the other side of Sardinia. We have ...
Olbia, Sardinia, Italy bellavita... weather lasted for 4 hours before the wind came up a little. Then a little more and more until we were half way across and our breeze had turned into a strong breeze on the nose, with the seas becomming very choppy with a short steep swell. Unfortunately the Sutho's found this most unpleasant and between vomoiting and death threats to the captain they were forced to endure 24 hours of this torture. I believe Gills comment after reaching Olbia was ...
Olbia, Sardinia, Italy bellavita... full of shops, cafes and restaurants. We had a fun night out with Pete's sister Alison and enjoyed a traditional 4 course Sardinian meal while watching people wandering up and down the main street. It was quite amazing how busy the town gets after 7pm. I'm sure everyone comes out either to shop, eat or just walk the street, having the occasional gelato or ...
Olbia, Sardinia, Italy bellavita... matched by reality - and the water has been consistently clear too. Food choices have been dominated by Pizzeria offerings for the last 3 days as the prices in the more varied restaurants have been prohibitive! Still, we have had some great pasta and seafood, accompanied by delicious Sardinian wine. I would whole heartedly recommend a trip here ' try it in one of the many campervans to be truly free of accomodation really only being available in towns.....
Olbia, Italy danielvalente... halfway back and took a different trail to some caverns on the coast. You'll see in the pictures I had to go down the side of a cliff on some stairs and then walk around a suspended walkway to get into the caverns. I then hiked back to town, bought some groceries, and cooked myself some pasta with pesto sauce for dinner. Tuesday, we met at the diving center again at 9am, and I was joined by the Danish guy and his son, as well as a German couple ...
Cala Gonone, Italy dgreen78... have the time or the money for it. It's really no big deal for me ... I think I've had enough of the Mediterranean for now. Read the "Piano Tuner" on the bus - my ambivalence continues. Edgar Drake writes an incredible letter to his wife explaining why he hasn't gone home yet - it struck a chord with me. He's not sure why he is still in Burma - he only knows that he needs to be there and will return when he finds what he is searching for. The book is very ...
