Back Home Safe and Sound

... even more so, and staying at Hotel Villa Cipressi more than that. We will endeavor to try to get there at least once a year, and perhaps Tuscany (our second love) as well. Venice was amazing, as usual, but is not nearly so relaxing, as it is crowded with tourists and very overpriced. Driving through the Dolomites and staying at the Castle at Pergine was an unusual and ...

Can anyone suggest an all inclusive resort off the east coast of the US for myself and family (wife and 2 sons 11 and 13), would like if possible to get there by a short cruise from NY or NJ. Would like to spend 1-2 days on ship and 4-5 days at resort, and maybe fly back to US. Can go anytime from March thru July2010. Leaving Soon for Northern Italy

... valley known as Valsugana with mountains on either side. After Trento when we travel through the passes indicated above, we will be at altitudes of between 4500 and 6000 feet. In Varenna we will hopefully have this time a room with views of the lake in 2 directions west and north. Along the lake I have researched side trips to places we haven't been yet, like Cernobbio and Laglio (George Clooney's house is here, but we probably won't be ...

Retreat in the Catskills, Plus a Little History

Never having traveled in New York state outside of Manhattan, I was dazzled by the natural beauty of rural New York. (Of course, my encounter with a roadside frozen coffee drink hut right over the state line didn't hurt my first impression either.) I had registered for a 3-day zen meditation retreat in the Catskills months ago, and was looking forward to it, but also hoping that I would be up to the challenge. John found a beautiful camping ...

One Hipped out Town

... cluttered with tie-dye and the smell of incense filled the air. We stopped into almost every store only to find out everyone was pretty much selling the same stuff, grateful dead shirts, tapestries, CDs and bongs. We made it down to some art shop and I went in to take a look. We wound up meeting these two cool kids that we hung out with for a little wile and went back to our hotel.

In the morning we ...

It was only after we had confirmed with the staff that it was working and had ordered lunch that we discovered that at this particular McD’s they charged for the privilege. We’re just astounded that in the current economic climate, rather than offer incentives to promote trade, so many people are content to just rip off others for as much as possible today, with no thought given to repeat business or whatever. Incredible…..

Terror and Delight

... I thought I was going to die were tiny compared the number of times I thought I'd never had so much fun. But don't the two go hand in hand?

That said, I had a super time climbing. And New Paltz is a sweet little town to take a trip to. Beautiful cliffs to climb, and a great funky little town to eat recovery cheeseburgers in. Great, that is, if you can get past those accents...

Woodstock, NY- first golf game in a while...

... played in about a year, but Peter was very patient w/ us. He's also a great coach and by the end had Jeska shooting great shots. I still sucked, but it was super fun. Afterwards we left the campground and headed north towards the Adirondacks. It was about a 3-hour drive up to our campground in Westport, NY on Lake Champlain. I was beat so decided to take the plunge- it was finally time ...
