Daily life in Prey Veng

... fruit or exchange money at one of the many jewelry counters (many Khmer people have their savings in gold). Then I head over to an unmarked stall beside the market with an elderly woman sitting out front, smirking with her red-stained lips from chewing beetle-nuts who I get my day-old Cambodian Dailys from. I don't know how I would have found her without Scott since she is the only one who sells them in town and I had to set it up days in advance, comes ...

...and a deep fried cricket!

... roads here are mental...their zebra crossings may as well be invisible!

We are now gonna chill out for a bit I think. At 5 i'm going to go to an Orphanage. Everyone's doing their own thing for dinner tonight I think, and then have an early one as getting up early and traveling to a place which I can't pronounce- a small beach town- still rather French I have read, so yet again it's going to be completely different. Will update when I can xx
... shoes, only to discover a molar in the topsoil. With this we decided it was time to go.

Site two was no merrier, as S21 was the schoolhouse turned prison where nearly 20,000 Cambodians were sent for torturing, questioning, and imprisonment. The shackles, cells, and markings still appear vivid on the walls, and there's an eerie sense of sadness as you walk through the cells. This site was, incredibly, right near the middle ...

Mud & Nath's new speckled look!!!

... was stuck to him, proved to be a very effective sunscreen & he didn't get burnt where the mud landed. Unfortunately, the rest of him got burnt leaving this weird looking speckled red & white pattern on his shoulders, arms & legs.. I took a photo of it & that proved to give us even more laughs. You'll see when you look at it!!!
Midden en Zuid Laos en Phnom Penh

Hallo!

Dat is weer een tijdje geleden dus een hoop catching-up to do, vandaar dat dit verhaal behoorlijk lang is geworden.
Waar was ik gebleven. Luang Prabang he.

... flat that is above my landladies house, in a nice garden, with 24 security, a brand new bathroom and a proper stove! My landlady is really cool - she is number one in the Ministry of Womens Affairs and supposedly after the fall of the Khmer Rouge she was one of the politcians installed in the new government and therefore given her pick of house in Phnom Penh, which she has divided up into 3 residences - 1 for her and 2 rented to barang ...

Strange Weekend

... of how the people were killed, then as we walked around there were signs saying "keep out of the mass graves" but wherever you walked there were bones and bits of clothing coming through the soil under your feet. Apparently more are discovered every time it rains. Hundreds died at this field alone.
The memorial is a tower of 17 levels, a number of which just had skulls in.

We then went to S21 which was a local high ...

A lakeside with no lake and S21

We returned it when it started to cry! Then we took the long walk home.

The next day we relocated to the lakeside area, as it was far nicer than our current accomodation. Campuchia!

... running through heavily mined areas, where the late khmer rouge leaders now reside - looking for old angkorian temples lost to the jungle!! There are so many white foreigners here, taking all these orphaned kids to dinner and buying them toys, and we call these people Angelina`s (for you know who) so we figured we would be Lara Croft, close enough without all the good karma. So this plan of mine...NOW that is what I call ...

The slowest, friendliest train on earth

... seats as we trundled across the arid rice fields, never too far from the sea or the jungle. At one village I bought some rice from a girl who was selling it through the window. But she didn't have change from my 500 riel note (approx 9 pence) so instead threw two barbecued fish into the bargain. A little heat-dazed girl, who had been nodding off next to me, suddenly slumped over my lap and embarked on a long sleep that had the passengers smirking for miles. But presently she was rudely ...
