... we would just stay in the gondola and go back. Good plan but unfortunately we were not allowed... we had to get in the enormous queue. At least it moved fairly quickly and I wrote this blog whilst in the queue. We caught the gondola and the ropeway train back the other direction to Gora. We were worried that our Ryokan was in such a remote area that there might not be any food for dinner there - so we decided to continue to Gora and grab ...

Back in my room I first had to prepare my bed, since I had a classic tatami-room with futon (first time!). After two nights I'm still not sure what to make of it. It's special, but I definitely prefer the comfort of my box spring.

Today we are travelled to Hakone by speed train. We had been saving our JR pass for the longer transits from Tokyo to Hakone and Hakone to Kyoto, only to find out that we could not use our JR pass all the way to Hakone, even though this was a little disappointing, we soon got over this frustration as the train fare was minimal and time difference only half an hour. The train trip we did have was very ...

Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...
