Today is just a chill out day so no early morning for us,we just laze about in the hotel until about for then go and do the aerial tram that takes you about 2 miles up and has stunning views of the smoky mountains.
The car's can fit 120 people in so are quite big and go up really quickly and i felt a bit …
This morning we're taking a look around Nashville before we leave for the mountains. Our first stop is the Parthenon no we're not taking a detour via Greece they have a full scale one in centennial park.It was built in the 1920's for a state fair along with other landmarks and is the only one still standing and has a 41ft statue of Athena inside. …
... most likely deviate from the planned route. However, much to my bitter disappointment we will not be diverting to Chattanooga to ride the incline. Oh well, a reason to comeback to Tennessee someday.
... stayed in Gatlinburg a couple of nights and we did a **** load of walking which we needed after all the meat we have been eating.
In true form Troy and I decided we'd pick a hike that was called 'Chimney top', only 4 miles long can't be that bad. Holy **** it was steep! When you get to the top you have to climb a massive boulder I got about a quarter of the way up the boulder and started to freak out it ...
... Ironically, we were hiking in a thunderstorm through an area that had been ripped apart by a tornado just a couple of years earlier. The driver who dropped us off at the trailhead told us it was one of only two tornadoes ever recorded in the park. “When was the other?” I asked him. It was just five years ago or so. An example of climate change?
Anyway, the rain eventually stopped and we sloshed the last couple of miles in water-saturated boots (waterproofing ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Bearskin Lodge on the River Hotel Gatlinburg
Honeymoon with children!!!!
I loved our stay at bearskin. Although we were with our children, it was romantic and cozy. I highly reccommend to all! I was, to say the least, impressed.
Loved the view
We loved the hotel, and the staff was more than helpful with luggage, etc. and very friendly. The only negative thing was the carpet was dirty. I had my grandchildren in the room running around barefoot and their little feet got so dirty. But awe will stay there again because it was one of the best weve stayed in in Gatlinburg and weve been coming there twice a year for about 30 years. Karen Gregory
Just The Best!Jan. 3-5, 2003, I was sponsor of a Peewee Cheerleading Squad of approximately 20 and had to make accomodations for the girls and their families to stay in Gatlinburg for the New Year's Jam Jamfest Cheerleading Competition. I did some internet research, some phone calls and received a brochure on The Bear Skin Lodge. Tony was more than helpful and courteous to all of our inquiries. The lodge was absolutely all that I was told it would be! They were also so kind to barricade off an area in the parking lot for our Motorcoach driver so he could easily access parking daily. Now that is service! Rooms had great views, fireplaces and all the necessary amenities and we just loved our view of the river from our balcony. I only wish we had longer to stay and enjoy it. I would highly recommend The Bear Skin and I intend on staying there again Jan. 2-4, 2004 for the New Year's Jam Jamfest again. Thanks guys!

My Best Hotel Experience, Ever!!!!!!!
We had originally booked another hotel but switched hotels when we saw The Bear Skin Lodge on our way in. The rooms were extremely clean and well taken care of. The housekeepers were anonymous, and the staff was more than willing to help with anything. After we leaving we decided that we wanted to stay there for our honeymoon, so in October me and 15 other guests will all be staying there because we me and my fiancee cannot stop raving about the excellence of the hotel. I hate hunting and my fiancee loves it! The decor was well matched with the name but not so over powering that it made me uncomfortable. All in all this was the best hotel that I have ever stayed in, literally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks, Jessica Blakely
Great place to stay!
This is by far the best place in Gatlinberg to stay! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly. You can't go wrong with this one!
Very clean with friendly employees, nice pool and lazy river. Nice decor, and, most importantly, comfortable beds. Every other hotel we've stayed at in Gatlinburg has mattresses that are like concrete slabs, but Bearskin is very comfortable. Also right next door to our favorite steak place in Gatlinburg, the Peddler.
My family and I have been traveling to Gatlinburg several times a year for over 3 decades. In that time, we have stayed at almost every motel/hotel there. As hotels age, they will usually have a corresponding decline in service/cleanliness and this keeps us moving around. Right now, the Bear Skin is absolutely the best place to stay in Gatlinburg. A nice plus is the proximity to The Peddler restaurant.
Great Place in Town
We don't usually stay in Gatlinburg, but decided to try this place for a weekend stay so we could go hiking. The room was great. Very spacious and decorated very well. The fireplace was a great extra touch! The only down side is that your view is of the hotel on the other side of the river, but I would still stay here again since it was nice to be on the edge of town (light # 10) and walk around at night after a day of hiking.
Love at first sight
Love the style of the motel. Rooms on the river are great.
