Also toured Red Rock Canyon which had a great display of the red layers of rock present throughout the mountains in this part of the Rockies and hiked along Waterton Lake to Bertha Falls.

Using a national park trail, we hiked to Akamina Creek campground in BC’s Akamina--Kishinena Provincial Park for two nights. Another dream fulfilled

... lots of tight turns and narrow cliff-hugging roads, some road construction and one-lane-only stretches. As we climb ever higher on Going-to-the-Sun Road (what a great name!) we enjoy the sunshine, which has been a constant during this last week. The lake and beach beckon, and we swim and lay around doing nothing, drinking mate and thinking about dinner ...

Rugged Wilderness Explorations

... home to Seattle. I am so glad that I went on this backpacking trip, because I feel so much more confident backpacking with friends. I absolutely love the minimalist nature of backpacking and being in the wilderness! I don't know how much I am up for bushwhacking yet though...!! (That was scary!)

I just wanted to write a little bit for now- pretty straight forward- I am in Korea now though, so I don't have much time, I will embellish more later!
Bison bones

... in the early days of the train travellers would casually shoot bison from the carriages as they passed by, never imagining that such a numerous animal could ever be brought to the brink of extinction, as it was. The emptiness of the modern prairie makes the former abundance almost inconceivable. It is hard to imagine that in those days the grizzly bear, now confined to the mountains, was by preference an animal of the prairie.

M.

Canada Welcomes Us

... by a gift shop, restaurant, and bar. By the windows overlooking the lake, you could stop in for high tea.

We walked Waterton Park (the town) looking at the shops and restaurant menus. The deer were all over, including in front lawns. Even though the town is situated inside the park, it is run independently. Shops and restaurants are owner operated and those few brave souls that live there year round own their own homes.

Waterton Lakes National Park

... It was a cool little town. When we got there, we walked around town and there were deer just hanging out in people's yards. I'm staying in Spokane tonight, spending some time here tomorrow and then I'm off Seattle to hang out with Ann. See you next week!

Day10 Wed, August 8, In Waterton Parks, AB Canada

... and got us all talking to each other. A Berry, Berry Nice Evening :) We arrived at Goat Haunt at just the same time as the Lake Boat International. The late afternoon/evening ride took about an hour. The scenery was lovely and we welcomed being able to see it from a comfortable seat. We parted company with all our fellow hikers and the rangers at the dock and went off to find Saskatoon Berry pie at the Lamp Post Restaurant. Of ...
