    ... statue in the graveyard, commemorating the fallen in WW2. We then found ourselves in a park by the lakeside, watching people enjoying the gorgeous warm afternoon and speaking of enjoying, the ice creams were good! Then it was back to the hotel and after aperitifs, we had another meal in the bistro come bar and thence to bed. At least most of us did but Elaine was determined to get her money’s worth (!) and have a sauna, which she enjoyed, in splendid ...

    Slight detour today, drove 30km in the wrong direction before realising we should of reached Finland by now. Back to where we started, but this time finding the right road we set off for the day. We are on a desperate lookout for a tyre shop, but around here it is pretty remote with most towns not having much more than a petrol station and grocery shop so just taking the drive ...

    ... were even missing the ski slopes, which were empty of crowds. All we could do was sit in the mountain restaurant with a gluhwein and later take the chair lift down again. Back down in Pyha we visited the cultural centre which was very well laid out and gave good displays of the natural habitats of all the local wild life. Then it was into the Sport Bar for more Gluhwein before the bus ride ...

    ... and the way of life in these villages was coming to an end after hundreds of years which was a real shame. He was clearly passionate about his herd. After his story we went outside as it was too hot and outside it was a barmy minus 15 degrees! Must say it is surprising how you get used to the cold with the right gear on.     ... herder gave us a talk on 'a year in the life of a reindeer herder' which was interesting to see how closely connected to nature it is. In his words ' nature is the big boss around here but nature also helps us out too' - lots of natural elements mean the reindeer join together as large herds which makes finding/capturing them much more easy.
