... statue in the graveyard, commemorating the fallen in WW2. We then found ourselves in a park by the lakeside, watching people enjoying the gorgeous warm afternoon and speaking of enjoying, the ice creams were good! Then it was back to the hotel and after aperitifs, we had another meal in the bistro come bar and thence to bed. At least most of us did but Elaine was determined to get her money’s worth (!) and have a sauna, which she enjoyed, in splendid ...

Slight detour today, drove 30km in the wrong direction before realising we should of reached Finland by now. Back to where we started, but this time finding the right road we set off for the day. We are on a desperate lookout for a tyre shop, but around here it is pretty remote with most towns not having much more than a petrol station and grocery shop so just taking the drive ...

We were treated to a small patch of aurora tonight when we went out after supper. The romantic part of me likes to think it was the lights saying goodbye to us. Was still really cloudy but the snow was finally stopping and the sky looking patchier so I madly set my alarm for 02:00 in the morning to try and check for aurora one last time. Nothing. Still cloudy. Have to say it didn't improve the 05:00 alarm.

On our last morning we ate breakfast quickly and headed out for one last play in the snow before we had to transfer back to the airport. It was a few more goes (and bails!) down the toboggan run and final fool around sinking in the snow, before bidding farewell to our chalet and Luosto.

Sad to be leaving we had a heap of memories to take with us of this truly magical winter wonderland.
