Historical Traveler Reviews Beacon Hotel New York City

The perfect Manhattan home

from anonymous

The Beacon is almost unique in my experience of NY hotels in that their rates are dependable ALL year round so you don't get stung in the Fall and December peak months. Most recently we stayed at Christmas 2002 and as always the hotel exceeded all expectations. Great spacious rooms with fab kitchenettes, the studios are huge and the 1 bedroom suites even bigger. The high floor rooms at the back have Park views that other hotels would charge $$$$ for. The location is superb, Fairway Market across the street, Zabar 5 blocks for the best breakfast in the city and the 72nd Street Express subway stop 1 minute away (1st stop Time Square, 2nd stop 34th Street). As you can tell, we love it and cant wait to be back!

Fine old Hotel

from anonymous

Great old hotel with an even better location. Walked to Lincoln Center and to the Museum of Natural History. In spite of bone chilling cold drizzle for the weekend, we cabbed any place we wanted to go. I would reccomend the Hotel Beacon to anyone. Wonderful bathroom and the kitcheette area was a blessing due to the weather. Beds leaved a little to be desired.

Our hotel in New York!

from anonymous

Absolutely fantastic. We booked over the internet before going to NY so just booked a few nights in case we didn't like it.We LOVED it. We had to check out for the weekend because they were full but were straight back there on the Monday. We can't wait to go back to NY and will be back at the Beacon. Friendly staff, beautiful big rooms and great kitchenettes. A real home-from-home and in an ideal location for eating out locally or getting the subway. As a female I felt safe leaving hotel late at night to go shopping on my own.Oustanding - book now!

The only place to stay!

from rrobinhhalk

The Beacon is what a hotel should be in NYC. The location, the staff, the rooms all top of the line. I will never stay elsewhere now that I have found them. Very big rooms and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!!! Close to musems and transportation is close enough to get you everywhere else you want to go. A safe, clean, friendly place... what more could you want in NYC? Thank you Hotel Beacon!!

Great!

This place is a find! On the upper west side in a fairly quiet area next to the Museum of Natural History and Central Park. Rooms are nice, staff is nice, etc. We've stayed here twice. The suites with kitchenettes are roomy for NYC.

Highly recommend the restaurant Scarpetta's in the neighborhood.

Great Value ~ Very Nice

from anonymous

We stayed at Hotel Beacon during Thanksgiving holidays, '02 four nights. We had the 1 bedroom suite and it was very roomy and very nice. Plenty of closet and storage. Very helpful staff and nice location. Having the kitchenette allowed us to 'dine-in' with fabulous food from the neighborhood restaurants. Nice change from dressing for dinner. ~We'd rather stay here where it is so roomy and nice and take a cab to our destination;s rather than stay in a small, cramped hotel closer to TimesSquare for about the same $. I recommend Hotel Beacon!

Great Hotel

My family and I stayed in this hotel for two nights. We originally planned to stay for only one night, but it was so nice that we decided to stay one more. The rooms were very large and had great views. Withinn walking distance to H and H bagel, Zabars, and the natural history musueum. I Would definitly stay there again on my next trip to NYC.

Very nice hotel

Traveling to the Upper West Side, I stayed at the Beacon, which is a very clean and comfortable hotel. Everyone there was very friendly and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area of New York.

Great experience at Hotel Beacon

from Oronians

We just stayed at the Beacon for 4 nights and loved it. The location is excellent, the staff was exceptionally helpful and responsive, everything worked, and the room was very pleasant. The Fairway market across the street and H & H Bagels on 80th provided us with most of our snacks and meals--we really used the kitchenette and were glad we did. Easy walks to Central Park, Lincoln Center, the Museum of Natural History, and an all-around great neighborhood. It really felt like "home" after a short time, and was a good jumping-off point for everything we wanted to do.

Perfect Upper West Side Location

from anonymous

After initially checking into a very disappointing Ian Schrager hotel, we decided to see if we could find something else. We spotted the Beacon from a Kinko's and were able to get a suite on a Friday afternoon for a very reasonable price. Without a doubt, this is the best combination of location, small European hotel-feel and price we've ever found in NYC! A five minute walk up the street gets you the best bagels in the world (H&H) and Zabar's is just across the street. This is the MUST-STAY hotel for us.

Day 7: Amtrakking

Today was traveling day as we departed the Hershey Hotel and boarded Amtrak for a train ride into New York's Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. I had some drama with a temporary lost ticket on the train but other than that it was a pleasurable ride. Due to the crowd on the train Jadin and Laneshia sat in a different car then Aria and I, but when we …

Friday July 22nd

Heat, humid & draining… it's summer in New York and it’s hot outside. Today’s high was expected to be 100 with the heat index at 110. Needless to say, our itinerary was adjusted – still we were not going to let the weather affect us.

I woke around 8am but I let Laneshia and the kids …

Day 9: Mad about Midtown (Manhattan)

A travel blog entry by dubnation

No sleeping in today as Midtown Manhattan was our destination and we had a 10:30am appointment at the Sony World Technology Labs. To get there required some walking as the Sony Building was several blocks from our subway line– so we prepared mentally for the heat as the heat wave continued today.

After breakfast in the hotel room we …
