Arrival in NYC

Going through immigration at airport was a lot quicker than expected which was a plus. We met up with the rest of the group, seem to be a group of really nice people. Yes we are the youngest but not by too many decades! It took about an hour by coach to get to our hotel. I thought the traffic was bad in London but jeez I think I'd rather drive …

Had a later start today as we left our hotel in Ithaca heading for Woodbury then back to New York. We headed through the Catskills. The Catskill Mountains are a large area in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of New York. They are located approximately 170 kms north-northwest of New York City and are the closest outdoor recreation spot for …

Today is our last full day in NYC. We are so close to Central Park we decided to take a walk through the middle section of the Park entering at the West 82nd St entrance.

Central Park is a public park at the center of Manhattan in New York City. The park initially opened in 1857, on 334 ha of city-owned land. In 1858, Frederick Law …

Today was going to be our main shopping day and Julie had made a list. She was also keen to see a Broadway Show and in particular Jersey Boys which was showing at the August Wilson Theatre on W52nd Street. Not wanted to queue for cheap tickets we were able to book on line. After completing the booking it was down a couple of blocks to our local …

Today we got out of our hotel to be greeted by cool weather for the first time on our trip and forged ahead picking up our tour bus. The bus took us past the west side of Central Park and past the Museum of Natural History and the Cathedral of St John the Divine. The Museum like most buildings in NYC has been privately funding during the 1850's and …

    Great Hotel

Our suite on the 25th floor was excellent. Great size, beautiful views in two directions and well located to Central Park on the Upper west side.

Its a bit of a walk to Times Square but if you like being out of the rat race and can cope with that it's great.

Century 21, a very good place to pick up designer brands a bit cheaper is close by.

definitely would stay here again or recommend.

Great stay, clean rooms with everything possible to make life comfortable; lovely bathroom - fantastic shower, good quality toiletries, hair dryer. Easy to use safe, and perhaps best of all a very well equipped little kitchen with fridge and microwave - brilliant! Bed extremely comfortable, views amazing, friendly staff, what more can I say. Loved it.

We loved this hotel. The staff were amazing, the location superb, close to everything, subway, markets, bottle shops and Central Park. Every room has a kitchenette, complete with our own coffee machine, which is fabulous for NYC. So comfortable, king size bed, great view of NYC skyline. Will definitely stay at the Hotel Beacon next time we visit New York.

    The perfect Manhattan home

    from

The Beacon is almost unique in my experience of NY hotels in that their rates are dependable ALL year round so you don't get stung in the Fall and December peak months. Most recently we stayed at Christmas 2002 and as always the hotel exceeded all expectations. Great spacious rooms with fab kitchenettes, the studios are huge and the 1 bedroom suites even bigger. The high floor rooms at the back have Park views that other hotels would charge $$$$ for. The location is superb, Fairway Market across the street, Zabar 5 blocks for the best breakfast in the city and the 72nd Street Express subway stop 1 minute away (1st stop Time Square, 2nd stop 34th Street). As you can tell, we love it and cant wait to be back!

    Fine old Hotel

    from

Great old hotel with an even better location. Walked to Lincoln Center and to the Museum of Natural History. In spite of bone chilling cold drizzle for the weekend, we cabbed any place we wanted to go. I would reccomend the Hotel Beacon to anyone. Wonderful bathroom and the kitcheette area was a blessing due to the weather. Beds leaved a little to be desired.

    Our hotel in New York!

    from

Absolutely fantastic. We booked over the internet before going to NY so just booked a few nights in case we didn't like it.We LOVED it. We had to check out for the weekend because they were full but were straight back there on the Monday. We can't wait to go back to NY and will be back at the Beacon. Friendly staff, beautiful big rooms and great kitchenettes. A real home-from-home and in an ideal location for eating out locally or getting the subway. As a female I felt safe leaving hotel late at night to go shopping on my own.Oustanding - book now!

    The only place to stay!

    from

The Beacon is what a hotel should be in NYC. The location, the staff, the rooms all top of the line. I will never stay elsewhere now that I have found them. Very big rooms and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!!! Close to musems and transportation is close enough to get you everywhere else you want to go. A safe, clean, friendly place... what more could you want in NYC? Thank you Hotel Beacon!!

    Great!

    from

This place is a find! On the upper west side in a fairly quiet area next to the Museum of Natural History and Central Park. Rooms are nice, staff is nice, etc. We've stayed here twice. The suites with kitchenettes are roomy for NYC.

Highly recommend the restaurant Scarpetta's in the neighborhood.

    Great Value ~ Very Nice

    from

We stayed at Hotel Beacon during Thanksgiving holidays, '02 four nights. We had the 1 bedroom suite and it was very roomy and very nice. Plenty of closet and storage. Very helpful staff and nice location. Having the kitchenette allowed us to 'dine-in' with fabulous food from the neighborhood restaurants. Nice change from dressing for dinner. ~We'd rather stay here where it is so roomy and nice and take a cab to our destination;s rather than stay in a small, cramped hotel closer to TimesSquare for about the same $. I recommend Hotel Beacon!

    Great Hotel

    from

My family and I stayed in this hotel for two nights. We originally planned to stay for only one night, but it was so nice that we decided to stay one more. The rooms were very large and had great views. Withinn walking distance to H and H bagel, Zabars, and the natural history musueum. I Would definitly stay there again on my next trip to NYC.

    Very nice hotel

    from

Traveling to the Upper West Side, I stayed at the Beacon, which is a very clean and comfortable hotel. Everyone there was very friendly and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area of New York.

    Great experience at Hotel Beacon

    from

We just stayed at the Beacon for 4 nights and loved it. The location is excellent, the staff was exceptionally helpful and responsive, everything worked, and the room was very pleasant. The Fairway market across the street and H & H Bagels on 80th provided us with most of our snacks and meals--we really used the kitchenette and were glad we did. Easy walks to Central Park, Lincoln Center, the Museum of Natural History, and an all-around great neighborhood. It really felt like "home" after a short time, and was a good jumping-off point for everything we wanted to do.

    Perfect Upper West Side Location

    from

After initially checking into a very disappointing Ian Schrager hotel, we decided to see if we could find something else. We spotted the Beacon from a Kinko's and were able to get a suite on a Friday afternoon for a very reasonable price. Without a doubt, this is the best combination of location, small European hotel-feel and price we've ever found in NYC! A five minute walk up the street gets you the best bagels in the world (H&H) and Zabar's is just across the street. This is the MUST-STAY hotel for us.
