The weekend after we got back from Barbados was a long weekend. So far we have only been away once over a long week-end either due to Matt's work or because they sort of snuck up on us. We looked at exploring areas north of New York but as we left it a bit late accommodation was a bit limited and car rental expensive so we decided to visit Atlantic City – a 2-hour bus ride away and we could book a hotel on Matt’s points!

Day #1: Out of New Jersey

We had been planning this Vermont thing since around the time we got married, which was September 20th, 2013. We saved our money in an envelope marked "Long Weekend", but the trip turned out to be six days and five nights; a long, long weekend. Unperturbed we played some poker, roulette and slots. Our stake was small but lasted a few hours which was long enough to justify the outlay. The free drinks certainly helped to overcome the drab interiors and the fact that our feet were sticking to the carpet.

We checked out the beach in the morning before we left and it had a nice break, with a few brave surfers and a couple of sunbathers. Alas the boardwalk was still empty. ...

... in places, coffee table tarnished here and there) but it was clean and comfortable. No complaints. We took a walk up the Boardwalk (late evening, after 9:00 p.m., I think). Some shops on the Boardwalk were open, others had closed for the night. The weather was still not great, but it wasn't raining and it was warm.
