Beaches of Broome

... what looked like someone kayaking out in the sea, huh? They went undert the water and then returned to the surface, hang on... It was a whale! We ran for a closer look and sure enough it was a whale about 200m out, amazing. We spent saturday night out with two new friends a Phd completed swiss guy who studied degeneration of the retina and apparently managed to considerably delay it and a girl called India from Sydney. Luckily, Rhiannon and Lisa were sympathetic and even agreed to a return trip the following evening, to finish what we&#8217;d started.<br><br>Other Broome highlights include the taxi-driver who picked us up and turned out to be a Geordie, and our trip to the Sun Cinema, a 90 year-old outdoor cinema. We sat on canvas deckchairs under the stars (and the Broome airport flight path) and watched a tiny gecko crawl over the screen. Broome - thumbs up.<br><br>

We made the decision last night to not actually stay at Windjana Gorge today. It was still very hot and we had found out that there is no swimming there. We got up at 5.30am to try to get to the walk early.<br><br> We arrived at Windjana and went to unplug the van from the car (so it didn't drain the car battery) and found that we couldn't get the plug out. ... the sun came up and I set off to explore the rest of the park over very rough unsealed gravel roads heading eastwards to the Dales Gorge area. The information centre en-route was interesting and informative with a good exhibition about the traditional owners, the Banyjima people. They also have civilised clean toilets and a drinking water point. ... no work on the horizon for both James and i we have to decided to give up on Broome in the work department, we have loved it here but the good old road is calling us back, so we are now trying to find our trusty camp book (it's some where in the caravan!) and start planning the next leg of our journey.<br><br>We should have managed to pack every thing back up in the next week and be on the road soon enough.<br><br>Love to all justineX
