Dangriga:

1. If your first impression of the word Dangriga is a communicable disease you´d probably not be far wrong! Unfortunately we had to stay a night in Dangriga. Not a pretty place. We went out for food at night, I got a bit spooked so we just bought some supplies from the supermarket and came back to our hotel. When we got there we saw three very ...
Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize willsez
I`ve witnessed my fair show of dubious bumping and grinding over the years. From the drunken dinosaur favoured by Jules and Bry, to the motorbike and crab inflicted on the public by Jody. However, even at ten to two in a dodgy Coventry night club I`ve never witnessed the full on porn bootie popping dancing that the young and beautiful - and the not so young and teeth missing ugly - Dangriga locals pulled out of the bag at a Garifiuna drumming night in a shack ...
Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize furgle... was lying semi comatose, only to wake ever so often with a feeble cry to his mum. This little boy has the skinny, pot bellied, old man facies appearance of marasmus malnutrition and it’s so sad to see. They are doing a study into malnutrition at the hospital and so filled out a pro-forma form. On it we observed that the family income is $200… Sometimes it really hits home to you just how ...
Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize sarahelective... be liasing… she says that she’s met him three times before though and every time he says hello as though he’s never seen her before (which I get the feeling annoys her somewhat!). Anwen and I find ourselves in a unique position in this process, because we can both appreciate what the American’s are trying to achieve and see the huge benefits that it could have for the patients, however, we are also in a position where the doctors will tell us ...
Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize sarahelective... We left them with some more paper and hope that they’ll have manage to have some fun this afternoon.

This afternoon Dr Montenegro took us to the factory of Marie Sharp – a sauce which you find on every table in Belize. Sadly at the time when we went they were peeling some fruit by hand and we weren’t allowed to take a tour of the factory floor, however they did let us sample their entire range (sauces and jams) on some crackers. Their ...
Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize sarahelective... selling the days catch. Malcolm had dome some fishing while we were out but didn't have much luck so we decided to buy some fish and salad fixings and have a BBQ on the beach in front of Val's. I bought a large mackerel and 2 red snappers for $7! Malcolm offered to prepare the fish and cook it if we took care of the salad and wine. Dangriga has a great fresh market so we had plenty ...
Dangriga, Belize margreet98... the day with an hour trek through the jungle, having to wade through the river 3 times. The cave entrance was blocked by a pool of water, so shoes and all we had tio swim a few metres to get in. It was cold when we forst got in but with our clothes on we sooned warmed up. We then spend about an hour clambering though the wet chamber of the cave. A lot of the time we were waist deep in water, holding onto the walls as we went. Sometimes you would put your foot down on a rock ...
Tobacco Caye, Belize Cayes, Belize hanscottclaire... the kids we met. The morning was fabulous, but the kids in the village seem to have an endless supply of energy, and by lunch we were exhausted. We were so blessed by a couple in the village who made us an awesome lunch that kept us going through the afternoon. During lunchtime we hung out with the kids and some of the other villagers selling jewellry and things across the road. Rejuvenated, we headed off to the school field with the kids for sports camp. Some of us played a ...
Gales Point, Belize belize2008... and swayed from side to side in the van as it went up and down the hills leading to Cristo Rey. When we would get behind a slow moving truck, Selmo would simply drive around it even around mostly blind curves. We were moving slowly enough and there were few enough vehicles on the road that this was not very dangerous, but it alarmed us a bit at first since we weren't used to it. Just before we reached Cristo Rey, we saw a couple of ...
Cristo Rey, Belize boognish... worth telling from this period, and that is my trip back to Cancun. As some of you may know, on a warm Spring evening in Orlando, Florida, in 2003, I saw a film that would change my life. It has never won any Oscars, it contains no famous actors; in fact it has probably been quoted as one of the worst films of all time by more than one person. It's name? The Real Cancun. Ever since seeing this quasi-documentary about a group of American college students spending their ...
