Mere äärde Sihanoukville'i

Hommikupoolik sai sisustatud ujumise, trenni ja basseini ääres lugemisega.

Siis transfer lennujaama lennuks Sihanoukville'i ehk Kambodža nr 1 rannapiirkonda. See asub Tai/Siiami lahe ääres ja on Tai randadega hästi sarnane. Propellerlennuk oli päris sujuv ning kogu reisijaskonna moodustasid ainult valged turistid. Sõit kesklinna …

It has taken a while to get round to writing this entry for a number of reasons such as being distracted, engrossed in travelling or just lack of wifi but more than anything Cambodia left us with a mixture of thoughts and slightly speechless to be honest. So here goes...

During our 2 weeks spent in Cambodia and many many long bus journeys …

We woke up early this morning to catch our bus to Sihanoukville. It was a long five hour bus ride of picking up and dropping off locals along the way. We were all starving by the time we arrived at our hotel so we sat down for a $3 pitcher of Angkor beer and some snacks. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs so we ended up …

The monsoon season hit us...

We woke up to cloud and drizzle and still a feeling of illness but at least we'd had a good sleep.  We headed out for some breakfast, a first for a while for Dan and then headed back to the room as Dan didn't feel good. The rain then came down alot harder for the next 3-4 hours, and with nothing to do in a beach town except watch films and Internet …

Back on dry land...

After yet another hot and restless night with Dan especially having to cool down in the sea, we were very tired but  we both finally gave up on sleep at 6:30. What was good though was that when we were in the sea cooling down at 10pm the plankton were so luminous, much more so than we'd seen on Koh Phi Phi. It was truly magical seeing these …

Good little stay (stayed in others too)

Situated in the centre of Shianoukville and walking distance to the beach, Beach Road Hotel was exactly what we wanted for our three night stay here.

Finally getting away from all the dust and pollution, it was nice to walk around without chocking! Ha ha.

Close to tasty little side street restaurants which we have missed eating for around £1, there were also bars, a beach with the softest sand ever and live music most nights we didn't have to walk far to find what we were after.

    Unfortunately Bed Bugs

    Reviewed Nov 22, 2012

Our first room smelt heavily of damp so we were transferred. Everything seemed fine so spent the day by the lovely pool (although for the size of the hotel there are very limited sunbeds). On return from dinner, we noticed bugs in the room. After a while some more appeared and we realised they were bed bugs, confirmed by reception and the fumigator. We were transferred to another room, which also had bed bug evidence so we asked for a room further away (it was 3am by this point). Early the next day reception came to take our bags and clothes away for fumigating and washing (they covered all costs) and told us both rooms had also been fumigated almost immediately. It took 24 hours for our bags to come back (even though they first told us 6 hours) so we had no clothes but it's better than bed bugs. The guys on reception were very apologetic but at no time did any manager come and speak to us. We were told by reception that they'd had problems in the past in the cheaper rooms due to backpackers coming from the hostels nearby but never in the pool rooms (another hotel nearby had banned guests who'd stayed at the nearby hostels due to bed bug problems so this confirmed his story). We did stay after that and had no further problems and if we hadn't had the bed bugs problem, it would of been a great stay (please remember they were very quick in resolving the issue). If you stay, do pay the extra for the pool rooms, the basic ones are damp and look on the verge of falling apart. The whole hotel would benefit from a refurbishment.
