Good little stay (stayed in others too)

Situated in the centre of Shianoukville and walking distance to the beach, Beach Road Hotel was exactly what we wanted for our three night stay here.

Finally getting away from all the dust and pollution, it was nice to walk around without chocking! Ha ha.

Close to tasty little side street restaurants which we have missed eating for around £1, there were also bars, a beach with the softest sand ever and live music most nights we didn't have to walk far to find what we were after.

    Unfortunately Bed Bugs

    Reviewed Nov 22, 2012

Our first room smelt heavily of damp so we were transferred. Everything seemed fine so spent the day by the lovely pool (although for the size of the hotel there are very limited sunbeds). On return from dinner, we noticed bugs in the room. After a while some more appeared and we realised they were bed bugs, confirmed by reception and the fumigator. We were transferred to another room, which also had bed bug evidence so we asked for a room further away (it was 3am by this point). Early the next day reception came to take our bags and clothes away for fumigating and washing (they covered all costs) and told us both rooms had also been fumigated almost immediately. It took 24 hours for our bags to come back (even though they first told us 6 hours) so we had no clothes but it's better than bed bugs. The guys on reception were very apologetic but at no time did any manager come and speak to us. We were told by reception that they'd had problems in the past in the cheaper rooms due to backpackers coming from the hostels nearby but never in the pool rooms (another hotel nearby had banned guests who'd stayed at the nearby hostels due to bed bug problems so this confirmed his story). We did stay after that and had no further problems and if we hadn't had the bed bugs problem, it would of been a great stay (please remember they were very quick in resolving the issue). If you stay, do pay the extra for the pool rooms, the basic ones are damp and look on the verge of falling apart. The whole hotel would benefit from a refurbishment.

We've been here in Sihanoukville, Cambodia since June 23rd. It's very laid back here at the beach and a great place to rest up from our travels. We've been moving pretty steadily, every three to ten days since February. The beach here is great. It's a lot like being on the beach in Mexico. There's a walkway lined with little bars and restaurants. …

Connor has finally recovered from his bug..the antibiotics did the trick! So we both spent most of the day in the pool as it was too hot to sunbathe. Connors appetite was back so we went for a nice big hearty sunday roast in Mick and Craigs, which ended up being 2 plates of food each. We had then arranged to meet Eileen and Kevin and Sophie had …

It has taken a while to get round to writing this entry for a number of reasons such as being distracted, engrossed in travelling or just lack of wifi but more than anything Cambodia left us with a mixture of thoughts and slightly speechless to be honest. So here goes...
