... beside us and the wonderful speech. We love you both. We boarded our plane to Athens at 5pm , however there was a slight hiccup. They didn't give us a seat allocation as their computer system was down. Then when we were waiting to board the people without a seat allocation were put on standby!!!! Fortunately for them, they put us on our flight! We arrived at our hotel called "350 degrees" at 6.15pm. It's very cool with retro decore. See photos below! Off to bed for a big sleep ...
... quickly changed into our swimmers and hobbled into the water ( nots so easy once you left your thongs at the edge). It was just glorious and refreshing. We wished we videoed Erwin getting in and out of the water with the pebbles - it looked an extremely painful event. But it was so worth the swim in such beautiful clear water. Lee collected some of the smoothe round pebbles to take home. We were sad to leave the beach and return over ...
... standing. You were supposed to see where the Olympic touch is lit, but we never really saw it. I'm glad we didn't do the tour though because is was very expensive and the people at our dinner table said most of it was in Italian anyways. After walking the ruins we walked into Olympia market place, and had a drink at a cafe to get internet. We had to be back on the ship by 6:30 and are supposed to be headed ...
... and tsunami which buried the site under about 10 feet of mud. It was the Germans who first excavated the site. They are still working on the excavations today. There were two large temples, one to Hera and one to Zeus. The temple to Zeus contained a very large statue of Zeus made of gold. Of course, that disappeared over the years. ... there. Some columns and part buildings were still standing and we got some good photos. The track and field area looked small, well short of 400 metres - it was too hot to test it out - with a low and small in area grass amphitheater that the sign said could hold 45,000 people. The ships departure was about 5pm today but we were back on board about 3pm after a quick look at shops and a 45 minute stay in an internet cafe. The sign said high speed ...
