    ... at. I was worried he might complain to the hostel, so I casually stood in the doorway of the building next door doing something on my phone. He stormed up to me and asked me in broken English "Are you staying here?" - presumably meaning of course the building I was in front of. I chose to understand his question to mean "Are you staying in the hostel?" and answered in the affirmative.
