Byron bay was the next stop-off on the list of the east coast. when we got there it seemed a lot more chilled out compared to the rest of the east coast. the place to go at night for me was called the 'beach hotel' where they had live acts every evening which was a refreshing change. during the day times we didn't get up to much. our hostel was a short walk from the town centre so it was far enough away that people congregated most times there. our neighbours at our hostel were 3 Irish guys a...
Byron Bay, Australia barbarabrysonWhoa, it seems like weeks since my last entry, and I haven't even made it much further up the coast! Let's see if I can remember all the way back to Sydney... Saturday night after dinner (chicken burger - I'm addicted) I decided I'd spent enough money for the weekend, so I just strolled up and down Oxford Street in lieu of dealing with cover charges and bar expenses. The sidewalks were so packed with people all night that it felt just like being in a friendly, crowded bar anyway! Sunday I sle...
Byron Bay, Australia easyreadWell, it had to happen sometime. During every trip there will be something that you look forward to for a long time, and when you finally get there... It's one major disappointment. I guess for me, Byron Bay is that place. After all the stories I've heard from other travelers, I had built Byron up to the highlight of the East Coast. Nothing could be less true though. Fair enough, Byron is on of those lovely small towns, with one main street, lined with trendy little cafes and coffee shops. Th...
Byron Bay, Australia hamsterMuch like America, the land down under is best seen from the great open road. We plotted a course for Brisbane from Sydney which meanders north up the east coast and through some choice road stops along the way. The highlight of the route was to be Byron Bay where backpacker mecca in Australia meets a colony of surfers driving VW buses. We had read about Byron in our guide books and locals and other fellow travelers helped in reiterating our excitement. All road trips require a very specific...
Byron Bay, Australia huyclefHello again...finally... Sorry it has been so long since our last entry way back in July! In the last 2 and a bit months we have covered a fair amount of the eastern coast, enjoying lots of sunshine and finding many beautiful beaches, we did however make one slight detour back to the west to be at the Le Moignans' clearing sale and catch up with family and friends. Anyway, back to where we left off in July..... from Sydney we spent a week traveling up the northern NSW coast. One of the best s...
Gold Coast, Australia kathrynandnickOn our third day in Byron, Erin arrived fresh from Hawaii. We celebrated by heading out to the Beach Hotel - a big, open-air bar/club overlooking the ocean with great music playing and lots of people dancing. We checked out Cheeky Monkey's before heading back to the hostel because we were told we just HAD to, but didn't find it all it was cracked up to be, unless you were looking to get trampled and wait all night in line for the bathroom. The next morning, Erin and I grabbed some free boogie...
Byron Bay, Australia michyByron Bay was an AWESOME time! I had the best hostel in the whole world there! I was recommended to go there by a girl I randomly started talking to while watching the sunset in Sydney. It was 5 bedrooms sharing one living space so it was more like an apartment share than a hostel. Awesome! There was about 10 of us who hung out for the 3 days I was there. We went out for coffee, I broke the ice by managing to start a grease fire and we partied hard! There was 2 Swedish girls, both named Ida, ...
Byron Bay, Australia nicolekraumanisDay 194 - Tuesday 9 March Observation number one - Although fat, many campers are friendly. We get up at 9am for brekkie of Corn Flakes and toast with English Breakfast Marmalade. A four and a half foot long Goanna - Australias largest lizard (see photo) - waddles nonchalantly past us on its search for eggs. Few people pay it much heed. Next to the beach and have great time in the crashing surf. Water temperature is 22 degrees C. I have booked tee -time at Nelson Harbour Golf Course at half o...

Byron Bay, Australia pinklaura123So I am sitting at the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay, waiting for some emails that will let me know what I am doing for the next month. While I am waiting most patiently for that, I will upload some photos letting you know what I did in Fraser Island. A little background first. Fraser Island is the largest sand Island in the world, stretching about 100 miles tip to tip. It contains large tracts of rainforest, and is incredibly biodiverse. The only way to get around is in 4wd vehicles over pretty r...
