On the cusp of the 1970s, four sailors and a civilian shared three floors of a four-story house perched on a hillside above the popular La Jolla Cove, just north of San Diego. Appropriately, the house was named "The Jolly Tar", which translates to "The Happy Sailor." While that may not make sense, a little history lesson will clear things up. In days of sailing ships, sailors commonly put tar in their hair to ward off head lice. In fact, the ...

From there, we took a taxi ride to a restaurant that is known to be the best Chinese restaurant in Beijing. It is called Da Dong and we went specifically for their renowned Peking Duck. This is a beautiful restaurant housed in a very upscale part of Beijing -- across the street is the Ferrari & Maserati dealership. We proceeded to have a 6-course lunch that took way too long (almost 2 hours), cost a lot of money (about $90 per person), but was beautiful ...

Hung around home in the morning - laundry, visiting, etc. Started our outing at Nani Mau at about 11:30am. This is a 22 acre property that has several buildings and manicured gardens. They specialize in weddings and events. It has several covered pathways, extensive lawns, and collections of orchids, heliconiums, fruit trees, a Japanese garden, and one of only three bell towers in the world assembled completely without nails and ...
