A flying visit to say a quick goodbye

I've just popped over to Malta for a day & a bit (as you do!) to say a quick hello / goodbye to my parents (and bring them lots of goodies over for the last time in a while).

The weather is a little warmer than the UK, but not as warm as it's going to be in a week's time (ha ha ha).

Anyway, I'll keep this blog short so ciao for now!

Anita x

The Costa Cruise Experience

... 8217;s Amore started playing really loud and next thing Jay, our waiter is asking Robyn to get out of her seat and waltz with him. It was hilarious (can’t you just envisage Chris wanting the ground to open up hoping he will not have to participate). Jay asked Miss Zealand next, but she was too shy. The next song he grabs Robyn and has his whole dining area out behind him doing the conga and yes Chris was reportably seen in the line and the ...

The Malta "Experience"

... group. But it doesn’t help because I still can’t make out what she’s saying beneath her slushy pronunciation. After we walk out the cathedral we continue down a long street with shops, past street vendors, and then turn a sharp corner into a narrow sidewalk that leads to an outdoor seating area ringed with restaurants. Then we realize that Juma is missing. It is 1:45pm and I’m worried by 2:30pm the boat will ...

Even Further Off the Beaten Path

... with a whopping population of 400 people. It's not completely small though since a larger city called Rabat pretty much surrounds its ancient walls dating back to 1000BC when the Phoenicians settled here. After walking around the old churches and buildings I headed on to Valletta, the capital. I liked being able to see an entire town in 20 minutes. It's a very efficient use of my time actually. I would have lingered a little longer but about ...

... oldest freestanding structure in the world at about 8000 years. Then we went to see Calypso's Cave where she supposedly lured Odysseus to stay with her for a while. Then we waited on a bus for awhile and had lunch in Victoria, then took a taxi to Ta'Pinu since the buses there stop running around 4pm. But the taxi driver was very nice and gave us an excellent deal. 25 euro for all three of us, including to ...

Valletta

I got a rather late start, not rising until 11 am. Roy had asked me to pick up his laundry, so I ran that errand and went to the Hilton in Paceville (about 10 minutes away). Having the European plug converter did me no good, since Malta uses UK plugs, so I bought (another) one. To join my collection at home. About 2:30 PM I caught the bus to Valletta, a UN World Heritage city. Knowing I would ...

Marsaxlokk and Golden Bay

... today. There was a buffet dinner which was ok, nothing special. We had roast turkey, pasta and some meats. R tried the rabbit meat which was ok. There was also a selection of deserts which was nice - R had chocolate cake and I had fresh baked plain cake with custard. For 14 Euros per head, this looked like a decent meal. We then got back to our room and spent time in our lounge area chatting and writing the daily blog before getting to bed at around 11:30pm.

Valletta and a Date!

... there was one or two that I would be interested in seeing that occur before I leave. I was also interested to get some information for my brother Jeff, as I mentioned earlier he is writing a opera on the Great Siege of Malta and I could only imagine how wonderful it would be to come to Valletta to see his opera on opening night. You never know! The weather had fined up and I was having a great time in Valletta once again. I had a few more hours to kill so was walking past a ...

... then I expected) under the stars by a beach in a pretty secluded area. I basically lost myself in the country. The homes and buildings for the most part looked a little like something you'd see in Morocco or Sicily, I suppose (but very well-kept). Tourism seems to be the biggest thing going, and some places are built up resort areas, which i tried to stay clear off. I visted alot of the cities (Valletta ...

Comino and back to Gozo

... was a bad idea. He got some nasty ice cream cake for dessert and had to ask for a different dessert. In any case, it was a good dinner. We went back to Malta and had to take a cab back to Sliema since the buses stopped at 7:45PM from Circawa. I can't say the public transport is all that great. I got better bus service in Chicago for a $1 then I did for the same price in Malta. The taxi driver was crazy. He went down on some super short cut at curves I thought we were going to die ...
