On our way to Lake Charles there are many miles of bridges over the bayou. Twelve miles before we reached the park we heard a loud "pop" and sure enough we had blown a tire. Today was 'Day 1' of our 4 day adventure home. We left our hotel in West Monroe at 9:15 a.m. We drove almost 4 hours to Lake Charles Airport to return our rental car. Took a cab to the Lake Charles Train Station. We Had lunch on board and made about a 25 minute stop in Beaumont, TX. While enroute to Houston, we had a 2 hour wait outside of Houston because of freight train traffic and an abandoned train. The freight train folks ...
... We encountered the weigh-in of a local bass fishing tournament on our first walk-about - 3.6 lbs large mouth bass was the winner (typical for the area is under 3 lbs so that was a good catch). Fishing was poor they guys said because of the cold snap and rains that muddied up the waters.

I did see some art on the fence opposite the cathedral I might have needed, but once again I was foiled by the absent drive-thru feature. Criss-crossed Bourbon and Rampart Streets several times and got a good look at the French Quarter that way.
