This morning we decided to see the sand hill cranes take off for the day. Amber had enough crane watching and the 6:15 wake up time didn't appeal to her. My parents and I drove off in the dark to go find another place where we could watch the birds. Just as we were parking, the first sign of light was coming over the horizon, and we could hear …

      Route 66.. Our first day

A travel blog entry by reevefamily on Sep 18, 2014

Our first day on R66... the much anticipated start to this part of our journey ... This morning we woke up from our stay at Walmart and after breakfast (including strawberries, yum!) we were on our way towards Joliet, the first stop on our Route 66 adventure. We found a park and checked out the R66 Information Centre, got a map book and stocked up on all things 66,(Liam managed to find some Star Wars things to buy) before ...

... made chicken noodles (think thick chicken soup) and country fried chicken. The food was delicious. This was followed by Lemon cream and/or peach pie with coffee. I had a half piece of both and preferred the Lemon cream. There was a short time allocated for questions which Marvin answered, but we couldn't hear the questions or him talking very well. We actually told the others some info we had learnt from Marvin during the drive. The large group ...

      Second day on the Bike

Weathers improving ....slightly...stopped raining but still cold. Forecast for tomorrow into high seventies so that is a definite improvement. Progress is slow at the moment because every time we ask an American a question they just want to talk, and how they can talk!!! Nice though . Visited the war museum and the Route 66 museum at Pontiac, really interesting. The bike really uses lots of fuel, only did 100 miles and needed to refill it, it cost an outstanding $7 ...
